Donald Trump has state visit to UK downgraded 'and will not be guest of the Queen'
Source: Independent
Donald Trumps planned state visit to the UK in 2018 has been downgraded to a working visit, likely forming part of a multi-country tour, it has been reported.
It means the billionaire will not be a guest of the Queen, as was previously envisaged.
Theresa Mays offer of a state visit to the first-term President was greeted with the threat of mass protests by opponents.
Mr Trumps visit will now take place without the glitz and pomp of a full state visit, the Evening Standard reported.

(29,173 posts)Driver. Military drivers are trained to do routine mechanical tasks.
She'd also have strategically placed photos in the room of her father, husband and son, all who actively served in a war zone.
She was trained to deal with buffoons and idiot PMs by mom, grandmother and Winston Churchill.
I can well imagine she told May (in a lady like way) that there was no way she'd be in the same room with that vulgarian. "You invited him; he's all yours. I'm too old for ..."

the beleaguered Charles and Camilla deal with him, if anyone... Charles is accustomed to such buffoons (and perhaps it would be his final penance for Diana).

There is no time/space continuum where Moron could receive this honor and give that thoughtful speech.

(4,919 posts)...like, how her untimely death was a shame because he didn't get a chance to 'date' her, which he would had done, even though she was, in his discerning opinion, 'crazy' (as he told Howard Stern a month or so after Diana died). Or suggesting that his spawn can tell them where to murder the best defenseless animals in Africa, (which they probably know about, given that they both are involved in wildlife conservation efforts).
Or 'schooling' Prince Charles on climate change: 'Believe me. It's fake news, Chuck. You ever hear of that: fake news? I discovered it.'

Prince Philip and the bloated, bloviating upstart. LMAO just thinking about it.
Trump would want Ivanka with him because he thinks she gives him a measure of class.
I'm certain the Prince would disabuse that notion in short order. The hilarious part would be in knowing that neither the father nor the daughter possess the self-awareness to know they would be the Prince's entertainment.
The Trumps would brag about the warm reception all the while feeling just a tad bit uncertain. Each word out of Prince Philip's mouth met with a moment of hesitation, promptly followed by a nod and a smile (because the Prince is delightful and clever and how smart they are to be in on the fun).
All the while merriment and mirth dances across the face of the Prince. His eyes twinkle. He enjoys his prey to the fullest.
The Queen would be polite, but the kind of polite that isn't polite at all. Mere formality, not even civil, really - habit. Where your visitor is nothing more than duty - an unpleasant one at that - but demands of office must be carried out. You speak as little as possible, but always mindful to say the right things. Bored perfunctory.
Yes, I know Prince Philip is known for being an ass - but I'd still enjoy his being an ass to the Trumps.

The whole thing is a disgrace to our nation, but I'm glad she is setting a very needed standard even if it currently above our reach. And it also means she won't be subjected to trump, so good for that.
