House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said Thursday that he was a constitutional conservative when it came to the freedom of the press, but he avoided criticizing President Donald Trumps recent attacks on the press.
-snip-
Do you agree with the Presidents interpretation of the First Amendment? the reporter asked Ryan. Im a constitutional conservative, he responded. Im for the First Amendment. I dont always agree and like what you guys write, but you have a right to do it. And Im a constitutional conservative, and Im just going to leave it at that.
Does it concern you that the President seems to disagree? the reporter asked.
This is how I see it, Ryan said, before moving on.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
