Exclusive: Pentagon Document Contradicts Trump's Gold Star Claims
Source: Roll Call
In the hours after President Donald Trump said on an Oct. 17 radio broadcast that he had contacted nearly every family that had lost a military servicemember this year, the White House was hustling to learn from the Pentagon the identities and contact information for those families, according to an internal Defense Department email.
The email exchange, which has not been previously reported, shows that senior White House aides were aware on the day the president made the statement that it was not accurate but that they should try to make it accurate as soon as possible, given the gathering controversy.
Not only had the president not contacted virtually all the families of military personnel killed this year, the White House did not even have an up-to-date list of those who had been killed.
The exchange between the White House and the Defense secretarys office occurred about 5 p.m. on Oct. 17. The White House asked the Pentagon for information about surviving family members of all servicemembers killed after Trumps inauguration so that the president could be sure to contact all of them.

(1,077 posts)This fact alone, confirms that no one person in the white house confers with another agency. There HAS to be a desk or a person who keeps track of those KIAs.
The guy in the white house needs to go.

(19,204 posts)even when Trump picks from his stable of amazing, great, great Generals, it seems like he's picking the bottom of the barrel. Granted, these Generals are not career government servants, but it would seem they'd try not to emulate their Draft-Dodger-In-Chief and attempt to learn a little something about their position. And failing that, they might not think it their "duty" to lie like a $3 rug as their CIC constantly does.
It seems Trump will only pick ass-kissing toadies, whether it's Generals or civilians. That's his ONLY criteria: you must be willing to fall on any grenade, real or imagined, to save Trump's bacon.

(17,149 posts)Fill in the blank with the dead soldier's name; it can be done by someone imitating trump's voice. Punch in the number, hit the recording, done. Sounds like a fine job for "Empty Barrel" Kelly.

(13 posts)Off the top of my head:
* Trump claiming previous Presidents (and Obama specifically) didn't call families of fallen soldiers, which started the whole thing.
* Trump claiming he never said that Sgt. Johnson "knew what he was in for, but I guess it still hurts" (paraphrasing).
* Trump claiming he had proof that he never said that.
* Trump claiming Rep. Wilson was no longer making the claim that he said that.
* Trump *again* claiming he never said it, even after Kelly admitted he did and tried to translate what Trump said to what he meant to say (or at least was supposed to say).
* Kelly claiming about Rep. Wilson's speech was about taking credit for getting funding for a new federal building.
* Trump claiming he had called "virtually all" of the families of soldiers killed during his term.
What am I missing? It seems like Sarah Huckabee Sanders should be in that list, but I'm not sure she flat-out lied. She mostly just says things that don't *quite* answer the question posed to her.
