His girlfriend was murdered on live TV, inspiring a run for office. Tonight, he won.

Democrat Chris Hurst, whose girlfriend Alison Parker was the Virginia TV reporter killed on live television in 2015, is on track to unseat a Republican and win in House of Delegates District 12.
Over the past two years, Hurst transformed an emotional return to television in the wake of Parker's murder into a run for office. The murder, he wrote on his campaign website, "set me on a different path."
"My career in news was fulfilling, but instead of asking questions, I became focused on finding solutions."

(32,634 posts)I hope he is able to find closure and to have an impact on the ridiculous failure to control guns in this country. We need lots more people like Chris Hurst to make a difference.
He knows firsthand what devastation senseless gun violence creates. I hope he goes far. He is just what we need as a representative, he lived the horror.
