Police have seized more than 12 tonnes of cocaine from Colombias top crime gang, the biggest haul ever in the nations long-running fight against drug trafficking, President Juan Manuel Santos said.
The cocaine was found stored underground on four farms in a banana-growing region of north-west Antioquia province, near Colombias border with Panama.
The US market value was estimated by Santos at about of $360m. The haul would break down into 11m hits of one gram each which would equate to $660m at an average street price of around $60 per gram.
Thanks to a police operation with overseas intelligence, from friendly countries, the largest seizure in history was made, Santos said at a police base where the cocaine was laid out in packages on display.

(23,290 posts)baby laxative (mannitol) to the point where it was "stepped on" in half two or three times (bringing the potency to half/quarter/eighth) at least before it hit the consumer. A gram was never less than $100 back then, but effectively cost $800 because it was often 1/8 potency.
I never ever see anyone using cocaine anymore. I hang around with a lot of musicians and nobody is holding... who is using this shit? I guess I'm just too old.

(19,259 posts)I was going to say the price of blow has really come down from when I was active in the trade.
That's one drug I miss to this very day, but I'm also happy as hell I kicked it when I had the chance. It's an insidious drug, a siren sweetly singing, promising to make everything alright with it's cool, cool comfort. It's also a savage beast, clawing at your sinus membranes, tearing your mind apart, and pushing your cardio-vascular system to the breaking point, and still you want more, MORE!
Fuck......that........shit. I'm glad the Policia were able to take that much off the street, but the producers will make more. Much, much, more.

It weakened my father's heart and pretty much killed him. It is very much an insidious and cunning drug that lures its victims into its vise and it is nearly impossible to escape. Looks like you did and I congratulate you for it!

(19,259 posts)turned me around. I had an epiphany in the delivery room, and haven't touched a drug or drop of alcohol since. It's funny how those little babies, totally unable to communicate except for their most basic needs, can smarten a person up without a word.
She's 33 now, married with a family of her own, has her Master's degree, works for a non-profit to help others, and has given me two beautiful grandchildren. And to think I could have missed out on all of that by letting that white powder control my life. No....way....in....hell.
