Keurig CEO Not Happy With Tweet About Company Pulling Ads From Hannity

Keurig made headlines this weekend when the coffeemaker company revealed on Twitter that it had pulled ads from Sean Hannity’s Fox News program, prompting angry Hannity fans to destroy their Keurigs on camera.

However, it appears that the company’s CEO is not too happy with the publicity.

In a letter to staff obtained by the Washington Post, Keurig CEO Bob Gamgort wrote that the social media team should not have broadcast the company’s decision to temporarily yank advertising from Hannity’s show. A spokesperson for Keurig told TPM that the company was not releasing the letter but confirmed that a note was sent to employees Monday morning.

Gamgort argued that it was “unacceptable” for the social media team to broadcast the company’s decision on advertising strategy.

I've also noticed, since the advent of pod coffee makers, the selection of coffee in my local grocery stores has gotten terrible. It used to be that I could choose from at least three, usually more, type of coffee that I could buy in bulk. Now it's down to one type at the stores I shop at most often, plus a lot of pre-packaged Starbucks and lots of pods.

It's like Amazon Prime, which also is creating enormous amounts of package waste that the landfills can't keep up with.

I think it's legitimate to bring these things up. No, I don't use Keurig or Amazon Prime (or Amazon at all, for that matter). I do try to keep a small footprint and I don't usually speak up about Keurig waste to my friends who have the coffeemakers, but all of a sudden Keurig is being deified and so I just wanted to mention it.

I don't really know why people can just use either a compostable filter or even a permanent filter, and make drip coffee if they must brew it only done one cup at a time.

All these machines (not just Keurig) breed bacteria & mold unless you clean them religiously. The best coffee is still made the old fashioned way: boiling water and pouring it over finely ground beans into a pot. I do my morning stretches while waiting for the water to boil.

There's that waste issue too – all those pods have to go somewhere.

23. You can use a reusable K-cup

They're a wire mesh basket that you put the ground beans in. THe grounds get put into the garden.

People use Keurigs out of convenience. They're great if you're in a hurry. I can get coffee in 90 seconds.

(I don't have a grinder-- I don't want one more gadget to keep clean).

In a pinch, there are some brands that offer coffee grounds in a tea type bag. They are very acceptable. I got a tad hooked on cold brewed 'Stok' and Starbucks.
Some a.m.'s I pour some in a cup and do a quick nuke so it's not ice cold then a splash of 1/2 & 1/2. But that's just me.

I used to buy Melitta drip makers for coffee mainly to serve to company. It made coffee everyone loved.

I did purchase a Chemex drip one but haven't put it to use yet. It's all glass. No absorbing strange tastes like plastic filter holders.

You need coarse ground coffee for it. And hot water. You can get a press for $20. You'll have better coffee and save a lot of money.
