Moore Trails Democrat Jones by 12 Points

Source: Politico

Republican Roy Moore is trailing Democrat Doug Jones by 12 points in the Alabama special Senate election, according to a poll conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee after five women accused Moore of pursuing them as teenagers.

Jones led Moore 51 to 39 percent, according to the survey taken Sunday and Monday. The NRSC withdrew its support for Moore after the Washington Post published the first allegations against Moore on Thursday, and the group’s chairman, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) said Moore should be expelled from the Senate if he wins on Dec. 12

If they think they're ahead, maybe some of them will stay home.
But if they know they're behind, they'll get everybody to the polls in buses.

Party committees almost never release polls where their candidate is trailing badly. Granted, the NRSC did cut ties to Moore.

Rather, I think this poll (and it may be flawed) was released to encourage Moore to drop out from the race. Whether that would trigger a delay in the election, I do not know. The NRSC doesn’t want Jones or Moore in the seat so pushing a poll with good news for Jones is uncharacteristic of them, to say the least.

could they possibly be trying to scare the base to vote for moore so that the Democrat in the race won't win? It will work.

It's a shame really. Moore could bring the republican senate to a complete stop, making a 2018 conversion certain.

The race is a statistical tie from my unscientific measurements. But then again, tossing this bogus poll out there just might turn a few yahoos in Alabama, and as Martha Stewart would say, "it's a good thing".

I'm confident in the numbers-- Moore's endorsements are consistently doing one-eighties on him, the RNC has pulled funding from his campaign, prominent GOP spokesmen, both in DC and in the media are demanding he drop out, all polls are consistently showing him on the downside slide beneath Jones, and he of course assaulted under-age girls.

At this point, only an idiot would think this comedic circular firing squad is a clever ruse by Trump or his advisers. Moore is done, and the only question remaining will be if he stays in the race and splits the GOP vote, or simply goes quietly into that good night.

We don't want him to drop out or the GOP to somehow slip a decent candidate in there. Even if he wins it will throw the Senate into chaos for years.
