AMID global concerns about North Koreas threats of nuclear war, China has unveiled a next-generation nuclear weapon that is said to be able to strike anywhere in the world.
The nuclear warhead, called the Dongfeng-41, will be capable of reaching distances of at least 12,000km putting the US well into the line of target. With a speed of up to Mach 10 (around 12,000kph), it can carry up to 10 nuclear warheads.
The ballistic missile is said to be about 15 metres long, 2 metres in diameter and weighs approximately 30,000 kilograms.

(25,111 posts)corporations to get ready for war. Now we have China (which probably already had such weapons and who is a "friend" of NK) telling the world of such. Then we have the USA say our Navy Pacific Sea Ships need more money.
Meanwhile in the USA, all bad for Franken, victim for Barton.

(1,204 posts)I do wonder if this is going spark an arms race of sorts. A couple years ago I recall reading that Russia's warhead count went up over the limits of the START II treaty. I also recall there being talk about revamping US arsenal. I'm pretty sure there a few threads about that here on DU. That was under Obama too, so I can only imagine it would for sure happen or start up under Trump. I can also see this being used to spread fear and sell more missile shield defense to the public (regardless if the tech would actually work or not)
I'd say I wish I could snap my finger and all nuclear weapons in the world would disappear, but then I'd fear that would just encourage major powers to fight massive global wars again.
