Trump: I turned down Time's 'Person of the Year'
Source: The Hill
President Trump said Friday that he turned down being named Time's "Person of the Year" after the magazine only told him he "probably" would be selected. Trump's tweet Friday afternoon follows an online readerss poll that shows Trump being outperformed by singer Taylor Swift and San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for this year's honor. This year's winner will be announced on Dec. 6. ![]() Clearly it's a preemptive strike against the likelihood they'll pick someone else, something his ego couldn't stand. So he's all, "Oh, I got it last year so I really don't need it again, so that's fine with me, but of course they'd have given it it to me if I hadn't turned it down, since of course I am the most important person in the world, but since I told them I didn't want it this year they'll have to find someone else because they were only ever going to pick me and didn't even have a second choice figured out. Shows how fucked up he is.
Time person of the Year is not something one accepts or rejects. Its about newsmakers. Of course they got cowardly in 2001 when it should have been bin Laden since idiots view it as an honor when it is not. |

6. Fake, just like him.
The framed copy of Time magazine was hung up in at least five of President Trump’s clubs, from South Florida to Scotland. Filling the entire cover was a photo of Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” the big headline said. Above the Time nameplate, there was another headline in all caps: “TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL FRONTS . . . EVEN TV!” |

50. That is what immediately came to my mind.
Foreign leaders know that they way to deal with him is through his enormous ego so they roll out the red carpet, parades, gold everything, etc. Maybe if the Dems did the same we could fool him into doing our bidding for us in a round about way. I heard that Chuck and Nancy meet with him along with Mitch and Paul next week. Should they pretend to kiss his feet to get what we want? Is he stupid enough to fall for it if they do attempt to try the flattery treatment?

26. It isn't. They don't advertise or solicit applications.
There's an on-line poll, but that doesn't determine who gets it. The editorial board decides based on who they think has been the most influential person during the year (but not necessarily in a good way), and the decision is kept secret, known to almost nobody, until just before they publish the issue. Time wouldn't tell Trump or anyone else whether they were considering them. Trump is talking out his ass as usual, but he's guarding his little snowflake of an ego against the possibility that someone else will be chosen.
Please, God, let it be Bob Mueller.... |

Oh, right, Donald Trump. This is the first time I've ever heard of someone "turning down being named Time's Person of the Year." ( do they have that choice?) In other words, he didn't want to be shown as a runner-up to Taylor Swift, or whoever else, or was afraid (more likely) that this year's reasons would undermine and ridicule last year's reasons. Seriously, nine other presidents have been named twice (FDR three times). I doubt Dolt 45's reasons were that he didn't want to "be a hog" and accept the title twice. He DID want everyone to know he was in contention. Just another bizarre day in the life of DJT that we can all share...

Maybe President Duh Donald's real motive for the turndown is that it would be too embarrassing to lose to her!
As for Taylor Swift, she must be deploying her fan base to turn it into a popularity contest. The highlights of her year involve getting caught in a lie about song lyrics read to her by Kanye West, announcing she'd decided to put her songs into music streaming after her record label cut a deal that put everyone on her label into music streaming...and successfully took a groper to court! ![]() rocktivity |

63. I wish I could find something humorous in this. He needs therapy, and right now. Anyway....
Vogue called to say I was PROBABLY going to be on every cover until Anna dies. Then Jesus called to say that I was PROBABLY going to get into Heaven and bump someone from the Trinity. I told them probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway! Link to tweet |

66. They never choose the most popular anyway
If you ask me, the people of the year should be the women who have spoken up about sexual abuse and harassment.

73. Time doesn't have the courage to select the right person as POY
Time awards Person of the Year to the person or people who most influenced the news, for good or evil.
The two most obvious ones are: Good? Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone, who invented Twitter. Evil? Kim Jong Un, who brought back public executions. (On edit: One of the people he had executed was his ex-girlfriend, who was shot for violating the pornography laws, not for writing the song "Excellent Horse-Like Lady." ![]() |

81. Now when he doesn't get it, his supporters will believe Trump and attack Time.
Trump has given his fellow freaks yet another grievance to get their tattered undies in a bind over.
If he doesn't get it, the Trump freaks will say, "Ha! Time magazine is fake news!". Trump gives them gristle and they gnaw away at it. |
