Schumer, Pelosi Say They'll Meet With Trump After WH 'Reached Out' To Them

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published DECEMBER 4, 2017 1:12 PM

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Monday said they will meet with President Donald Trump and congressional Republican leaders after the White House “reached out” to them.

“We’re glad the White House has reached out and asked for a second meeting,” Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement. “We hope the President will go into this meeting with an open mind, rather than deciding that an agreement can’t be reached beforehand.”

Schumer and Pelosi in November refused to attend a meeting with Trump and Republican lawmakers after Trump blasted them on Twitter and said he did not “see a deal” as a potential outcome.

The Democratic leaders on Monday said there “is a bipartisan path forward” on all the matters they hope to address in the meeting. Chief among those issues is funding for the federal government, which runs out Friday at midnight.

he thinks he's the greatest negotiator ever. I'm sure it won't work on them.

A 3 month extension on government funding instead of a year, which forced the Republicans to show their asses and overload an already bad bill into a horrifically inexcusable tax cut bill that can be hung around their necks during next year's GE. They also got a few concessions short term from the White House on the other issues they could negotiate with.

They aren't stupid, and unless he's got his minders around him when they visit, they'll probably use him to F*** over Republicans yet again.

Drumpf is easy to manipulate. He's also a liar and cheat, and they both are perfectly aware of this.

are able to stop some of the draconian measures in the tax bill, is that a bad thing?

Even if they can get the mandate and subsidies for the ACA put back in, that will help people who have to have health insurance coverage. If they can work to nsure that the SCHIP's program is preserved and protected, wouldn't that be a good thing? If they are able to influence changes so that cuts to Medicare or Social Security will be off the table, wouldn't that be a good thing? If they are able to exert influence so the tax bill helps those who need it the most, not the wealthiest, that would be a good thing.

While most likely nothing will result from this, one thing is certain, if they don't try then a lot of people will be screwed for sure.

It is really unfortunate that some refused to vote for the Democratic nominee in 2016, and 47% didn't even bother to show up to vote.

Every Democrat running for Senate in those critical swing states lost to the incumbent, establishment, republican, and most of those Democrats were quite progressive.

An establishment Democratic administration gave us the Civil Rights and Voting Rights act, started Medicare and Medicaid. An establishment Democrat appointed Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. An establishment Democratic administration got the foot in the door for healthcare reform, provided the mechanism for states to expand Medicaid, rescued the economy when it imploded, and passed Dodd/Frank, Negotiated a Deal to Block A Nuclear Iran, Secured U.S. Commitment to a Global Agreement on Climate Change, eliminated bin laden without creating a brand new war to do it, Turned Around the U.S. Auto Industry, Repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’’, Supported Federal Recognition of Same-Sex Marriages, Normalized Relations with Cuba, put Medicare on firm financial footing, established Net neutrality, boosted fuel efficiency standards, protected two seats on the SC, etc. etc. etc.

People are upset right now, well gee, elections do have consequences, and yes there is a difference between Democrats and republicans.

Pelosi will make Trump apologize for his Empty Chair Stunt,it will happen in private, rest assured. This is not going to be a Steam Roller for Trump. He is in Big Time Trouble and the only persons who can throw him a life line are Pelosi and Schumer. And that will only last till Mueller slaps him with his Finally Report which will cause major disruption in the House of Representatives.

Anybody that refers to that POS as being a president of anything has already lost me. Schumer and Nancy fresh off the tax reform victory, great job, keep up the good work or better yet just fucking resign. Powerless over-the-hill sycophants, bring your own grease!!!
