Poll: Voters in vulnerable GOP districts oppose tax bill

Source: The Hill

BY AVERY ANAPOL - 12/04/17 03:34 PM EST

Voters in six House districts currently held by vulnerable Republicans oppose the GOP tax plan.

According to new data from Democratic-leaning polling firm Public Policy Polling, the majority of voters in the surveyed districts oppose the GOP tax bill and think the bill primarily benefits the wealthy.

In Colorado’s sixth district, represented by GOP Rep. Mike Coffman, 57 percent of respondents said they opposed the bill, while only 41 percent supported it, and 67 percent think the wealthiest people will benefit the most.

Voters in Rep. Barbara Comstock’s Virginia district said they are against the plan, with 58 percent saying they oppose and 40 percent saying they support it.

do some choose to not understand? Every deeply committed moral, intellectual and even religious failure of the right is OUR fault?

I may compliment your cooking forum posts to try to bridge a gap, Elleng, but don't think that means I approve claiming what the right is doing to our nation on Democratic Party failures. I AM A DEMOCRAT. I did my job. Our leaders worked themselves to exhaustion doing their job.

What should have been solid, sweeping Democratic victories were sabotaged with lies, lies that were spread lavishly right here on DU, not just everywhere else. As a result, American voters, critically and decisively including a percentage of left-wing anti-Democrats, made choices that elected not just Trump but put congress under Republican control. PLUS a majority of state governments.

You want to blame someone, guys, I suggest you blame those ALL who lied about the Democratic Party in 2016. ALL!

Those who want to fix this mess need to lay blame squarely and unmistakably on Republicans for what the right is doing and to support Democrats in 2018. It's simple. Anything else will sabotage Democrats and help elect Republicans in 2018.

Again.

coming up fast, it's happening right now. THIS is the time to align with Democrats to wrest power back from the ultraconservative billionaires who've taken over the right.

It's NOT the time to keep posting suggestions that one side worth supporting still needs to form.

Here's a challenge, Elleng: Identify one big principle the Democratic Party stands for and post your pride in being a Democrat because of that.

Here's one from me: We are the people who believe in equality among all men and who are fighting as the Democratic Party to protect that organizing principle in our government against those who have never believed in it and are determined to do away with it.

I'm extremely proud of that and very frightened that we could lose.

us. I, and likely others, appreciate her passion and the point she is making. What you view as blaming others may view as a call to focused action. I for one maintain no illusion that we cannot be better in the ring. We need stronger voices, stronger messaging and action from all of us that will get us out of this mess.

How about THIS: The Democratic Party and our forerunners in the Jeffersonian/Madision era are both the founder and the protector of the principles of one man/one vote. The Republicans are stealing elections. We are NOT. We're protecting the right to vote for everyone. Surely that's worth being proud of??!

We are THE party the Russians have to defeat if they are to invade dozens of countries to expand to the borders of the old Soviet Union. Can you be proud of being critical to the peace, safety and wellbeing of hundreds of millions of people in many nations?

We are not only the party that brought our nation the New Deal, the Fair Deal, the Great Society, the ACA, but the one that has fought every decade since to keep the Republicans from repealing them. Pride?

We are the party who are stopping kleptocrats like the Kochs from destroying our democracy.
Please, be proud of that and join the fight for our nation! Because after decades of propaganda eating away at our support it's become a very dangerously close thing.

The only stronger voices we need are our own strongly proud ones. Those who are too affected by years of lies and negative propaganda, or are just too different in political orientation, to be able to be proud of what we are and what we are fighting for might at least examine the hostile messages that our nation is being blanketed with so that they don't inadvertently echo them here.

Moral victories are a lovely thing except when you lose the war. To borrow from a movie, "Hey, maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events, but we just got our asses kicked, pal!"

Not exactly a lot to be PROUD of for Dems on a national level the last couple years if you measure it on the yardstick of current events. We can't afford to sit proudly on our laurels and wait for voters to realize how terrific we are--that behavior is exactly one of the reasons we Dems are in this current mess. If we don't examine our strategies and adjust our message accordingly we are gonna continue getting royally screwn at every turn. We can do better, and it is poor strategy to believe otherwise.

YMMV, but I'm firmly in the camp of kicking GOP ass, and that won't happen if Dems camp on our high moral ground and wait for the rest of the voters to realize how terrific we are at being sanctimonious. We gotta educate and we gotta organize.

WHO and WHAT our enemies are tells you nothing?

They're an exceptionally evil and nasty gathering. WHY are they ranged against US?

As for your statement, I doubt that the kind of deluded fools who respond to the dreadful threats massed on our right by yammering and whining about how awful the Democratic Party is could organize their way out of a paper bag. To my mind they epitomize everything they complain about in the party itself and nothing of what it is doing and stands for because they don't know what that is.

Seriously, Laura. WHY are you a Democrat?

if you can think of anything at all worth saying for yourself, speak out! Again and again. Be the message you need nonvoters to hear.

And if you can't,...what the hell are you doing?

New voters really need to understand that they DO have a a good choice and that that is the Democratic Party.

That truth needs to cut through the fog of lies.

I was part of the Not One Penny nationwide phone call today and you are doing what Ben said we all need to do. The bill is not a win, it is a disaster and we can stop it. There are still a few weeks left and the three things we must do...
1. Attend protests, town halls, etc and make sure the media is there, no matter how big or small it is. The media has been absent due to the non stop distractions. There are many important issues but this is our BIGGEST PRIORITY for the next few weeks.
2. Keep up the CALLS. They started late but eventually their staffers were busy ...call, tell your family and friends in other states to call too. (202)224-3131
https://www.trumptaxscam.org/
3. Social media is crucial. Retweet and share whatever you can. Send it to the media. Events, town halls, protests are occurring and over 100 are planned for this week alone. Bernie, Cory Booker, Indivisible, MoveOn have been going to Kentucky, Ohio and PA all weekend.

New info is already coming out. One new fact since the Fri vote is that there will be 1/2 trillion more dollars added to the deficit. 28% of Americans approve of the Tax Scam. This week Ryan will appoint Repub to his closed door "conference committee" and then we can target those reps. The house and senate have to "negotiate a compromise". What they voted on is different in each chamber. For now we know of 28 Rep congressmen who voted against one of the two bills/plans. We need to flip 23 of them. The Senate will need to be PRESSURED NON STOP...this means calling the 9 senators that were wavering. If we get Alabama we only need two more senators with Corker. This would be great. Also there is the threat of a govt shutdown by Fri., Dec. 8th.
We have been the catalysts of the grass roots efforts for a year and have stopped major legislation. We have a few more weeks until the holidays. After that we have to spread the word about what the GOP has done to the stability and future of our country with this tax cut for the rich and they are taking money from the sick and poor which will bankrupt millions and take over 13 million off of health care. Meanwhile tax cuts for multi million dollar corporations will not be trickling down at all and never will. The bill ensures that the country will be taxed more over the next 10 year (but not the corporations...you and me are paying).
Call (202)224-3121

We must HAMMER them on this bill. Put on the pressure and DO NOT STOP!

Mon Dec 4, 2017, 06:15 PM

"The district was created in 1983, and was originally a classic suburban Republican bastion; this was once the safest seat for Colorado Republicans outside of Colorado Springs. However, changing demographics in the Front Range, with a large growth in the minority population (especially Hispanics), has caused the Democrats to win over suburban Denver, while population shifts has removed the rural, GOP-dominated sections of the district to the nearby 4th, turning the 6th district into a mildly Democratic swing district. However, the district still tends somewhat Republican downballot (though this is starting to shift as well.)"

Because if they did, they voted to cut funding for human beings that volunteered to get shot at while over seas, that were making less than 38,000 a year dying in combat, and if they didn't get killed they came back with limbs missing or there brain cells were and still rumbling of war..........................
