LOS ANGELES The Republicans of Broward County, Fla., knew little about Rupert Tarsey when he ran for an open slot on the local party's executive committee. But the young man had some decent political cred.

Before the 2016 presidential election, he told them, he knocked on thousands of doors and got 50 Republicans in the liberal enclave to register to vote to support Donald Trump's presidential campaign. He worshipped at the same church as the committee's vice chair and headed a local chapter of the Catholic fraternal group Knights of Columbus. He came from a wealthy California family and followed four generations into a real estate career.

Within months of joining the local party, the 28-year-old was elected secretary in May, defeating two challengers who'd been around longer.

But something felt off about Tarsey for Bob Sutton, chairman of the committee. After a few months, Tarsey went after Sutton's position, members said, by working to persuade the committee to unseat him. That's when Sutton started getting phone calls warning him that Tarsey was not quite who he seemed.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Why should I resign?' Recently elected secretary of Florida GOP was charged in a savage 2007 claw hammer beating of his former female classmate from a posh Los Angeles prep school - but refuses to step down

A man arrested in a savage claw-hammer beating of a then-classmate at a Los Angeles prep school for children of multi-millionaires was elected secretary of the Republican Party of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida earlier this year.

Four months later, party officials have discovered the young philanthropist who supports President Donald Trump and is known there as Rupert Tarsey is really Rupert Ditsworth.

And a decade ago, the then-Beverly Hills teenager was arrested and charged with attempted murder after hitting Los Angeles's Harvard-Westlake School classmate Elizabeth Barcay over the head at least 40 times, splitting her skull open.

Now, Florida Republicans are desperate for Tarsey to resign and worried about the image of the party in the overwhelmingly Democratic area of former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

She must have suffered permanent brain damage from that attack. He was a minor (17) at the time, but that still doesn't explain the light (nonexistent really) punishment. What a mockery of justice.

What kind of horrible monster hits a woman 40 times with a claw-hammer and then 10 years later claims it was self defense? Oh yeah, that's right, a REPUBLICAN.

I wonder if there aren't more victims that have not come forward, or dead ? That is one creepy looking ghoul. Serial killer all over that face. He needs eighty wacks to his skull, that would wipe that grin off his face. That poor girl.

I don't think we advocate more violence as a solution to past violence. Do you really want to let your post stand?

Nor do we advocate judging people by the color of their skin or the shape of their face.

"Serial killer all over that face"? Really? You can pick them out of crowds and convict them for pre-crime?

He didn't even use a firearm on his victim.

I'm sure the Republicans will say he's fine, and just the victim of another witch hunt by the liberal media.

If, by any chance, this should actually dim his chances in Florida or California, he can always run for the US Senate in Alabama. It appears that Alabama Republicans like guys like this.

See: http://hwchronicle.com/former-student-to-be-tried-as-adult/

(snip)
A former student charged with premeditated attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon will be arraigned Friday at Los Angeles Superior Court Van Nuys after posting bail of $1 million.

Rupert Ditsworth allegedly beat Elizabeth Barcay ’07 with a claw hammer on May 14, causing lacerations to Barcay’s head, face and legs, District Attorney Lisa Tanner said.

Ditsworth was initially arrested on May 15 and arraigned on May 18 in Juvenile Court. He was ordered to remain in a psychiatric hospital where he had been since the attack. He was rearrested July 2, one day after his 18th birthday, and charged as an adult. He was released on bail later that day.

-----------
Have not found anything yet on the final resolution of the case. Probably a case of affluenza.

A band of private attorneys represented him in criminal proceedings, brokering a plea deal with prosecutors that involved pleading no contest to one count of assault with a deadly weapon in exchange for six years of probation. A judge terminated the terms after five.

Court records show his family settled a civil lawsuit brought by his classmate for $1.17 million.

Ditsworth changed his name to Rupert Tarsey, after his mother, Patrice Tarsey, an attorney who represented her son and testified for him in the name-change proceedings, according to court records. A judge granted the request in October 2010.

Almost a decade after the attack, his attorneys asked a judge to reduce his felony conviction to a misdemeanor.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Why should I resign?' Recently elected secretary of Florida GOP was charged in a savage 2007 claw hammer beating of his former female classmate from a posh Los Angeles prep school - but refuses to step down

Rupert Tarsey, 28, was elected secretary of the Republican Party of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in May
Over the Labor Day weekend, Tarsey's real identity was discovered by a member who alerted local GOP Chairman Bob Sutton
Tarsey, who was born Rupert Ditsworth, began using his mother's maiden name two years after he was charged with attempted murder
In 2007 he was arrested after hitting his Harvard-Westlake School classmate Elizabeth Barcay over the head with a hammer at least 40 times
Florida Republicans, concerned over the image of their party, are now asking for his resignation
'I did nothing wrong and I was elected. This is just party politics,' Tarsey told DailyMail.com
Ultimately, Tarsey pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor which explains why his voting rights were not taken away

...............According to the Los Angeles Times, Tarsey was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after a strange incident in a car near the school.

Tarsey, according to published reports, invited Barcay, the daughter of Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Barbara Hayden, to drive to Jamba Juice after a big exam.

According to Barcay's statement to police, Tarsey eventually parked the car. He then allegedly pulled a hammer from a backpack and started hitting her over the head with the tool multiple times. He then left the car, opened the passenger's door and pulled her out while choking her before driving away.

Tarsey allegedly hit her more than 40 times, splitting her skull open. The girl also suffered a broken leg and broken nose.

According to the Times, Tarsey's parents rushed him into psychiatric treatment as Barcay recovered painfully and eventually attended the school prom in a wheelchair.

The party of “Family values” just values their families especially if it is a male heir to the manor.
