An amazing summary of why Trump's lies about the Russian meddling in the 2016 election have hurt the USA.

(10,110 posts)But of greater consequence is the mortal wound to our constitutional democracy committed by this governments apparent adoption of the policy that lies are the appropriate remedy when truth and fact are politically inexpedient. Without strict adherence to concepts of truth and fact, there can be no organized system of justice. Modern history is full of nations who have gone down that path, and, up to now, the United States has reviled them.
The light of truth and justice that the beacon the United States represented on this planet has been seriously dimmed by this lying scumbag of a president.

(9,426 posts)about the gop shoving their tax plan through. They seem to have no concern about damaging themselves to their constituents. Are they really not worried about re-election? If not why not? Is something afoot that we are not aware of yet? The main gop "leaders" are up to their eyeballs in Russian money, yet they forge ahead with unpopular actions. Why don't they think this will all be exposed? This concern me, their cocky attitude. Imagine if tRump were a democratic president? They would have impeached him by now.

It's troubling.
We have the audio of Paul Ryan talking about Trump & the congressman accepting Russian money ... and it
s like it doesn't matter. In the 60s, this would have been front page news and the perpetrators in prison in a heartbeat.
Trump is not just a product of the Russians. The GOP could impeach him at any time. Trump is in power because McConnell and Ryan want him in the Oval office to do their bidding. If they need a pedophile in the senate to keep this going, so be it.
There is something going on.
Citizens United is part of it.
Net Neutrality ... when you lose that, you can kiss off campaigns like Bernie Sanders because the grassroots is dead. One might not agree with Bernie but the freedom you enjoyed of having candidates like him is under serious threat.
Time Inc about to be bought by the Kochs ... in concert with Murdoch & Fox News - means the freedom of the press is being purchased to preach a right wing agenda and develop more dead heads than the ones Trump has.
Election/vote hacking - we still haven't got to the bottom of very suspect stuff going on there.
We're losing the democracy ... to an oligarchy. And it's to the point where they're getting brazen about it - like there is no turning back.
Pretty scary stuff.

(18,964 posts)I have posted similar concerns before...
The Republicans are acting like there are no consequences to their actions...
Grover Norquist stated that all the Conservatives needed in a President was one with enough manual dexterity to sign the bills that they sent him...they got their wish.
The extreme haste with which the Repub congress acted on the tax bill indicates that, indeed, something is afoot. I wish I knew what..
