Iraq declares war with Islamic State is over

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad that Iraqi troops were now in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border.
The border zone contained the last few areas IS held, following its loss of the town of Rawa in November.
The Iraqi announcement comes two days after the Russian military declared it had accomplished its mission of defeating IS in neighbouring Syria.

Baghdad and Moscow have Accomplished their Mission to defeat ISIS. Gee, that reminds me of something, something that happened many years ago, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Darn.

(195,599 posts)ISIS just couldn't sustain all these fights. They can't recruit enough to maintain their forces and they don't appear to have any rotation of forces. You just simply can't keep people fighting endlessly like this. Yes they will hang on (the Wahhabists have been around for millennia) but they will not hold on to much of their territory. It was always just a matter of time and pressure.

I don't. It's just that when they end Trump will claim it was all him, the media will comply, and we will never hear the end of it.

(40,284 posts)This brought in the West and western airpower. The tactics the ISIS used with great success no longer worked when they lost the ability to move rapidly in large numbers.
Your comment about rotation is interesting as ISIS kept their best and most experienced on the front lines rather then rotate them to the back for rest and to train others. As the hardened fighters were killed, they were replaced by less experienced fighters.
