One Answer From A GOP Senator Shows Democrats Have Republicans Pinned In A Sexual Misconduct Trap

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: CNN

CNN's Jake Tapper asked Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) if Democrats had a higher standard for sexual misconduct than Republicans. Shelby's answer revealed that Republicans are trapped because of Trump's Roy Moore endorsement.

Shelby said, “You will see all this play out. I believe whether you have a Republican, Democrat, independent, whatever you are, that you would not put up with the conduct, the bad conduct, from a Democrat or Republican. That is part of what will happen in the future. The Senate’s going to have to weigh, if Roy Moore wins, his fitness to serve in the United States Senate.”

Because Democrats took a painful stand on Al Franken, a man that they personally liked, politically, Republicans now have all sorts of problems. Republicans can’t claim that that they have a high standard for opposing sexual misconduct when they supported Trump after the Access Hollywood tape where he bragged about sexually assaulted. The party stuck by Trump after seventeen women came forward to accuse him of sexual assault.

Trump’s endorsement of Roy Moore has means that the Republican Pary is the party of pedophiles. The GOP’s lack of morality and win at all cost attitude is coming back to haunt them. Democrats have Republicans pinned down.

Roy Moore’s fate will be decided on Tuesday, but the looming dark cloud over the party are those 17 allegations against Trump. If Democrats win back the House or Senate, a congressional investigation of those allegations is coming.

If Republicans think they have problems due to Roy Moore, it’s about to get a whole lot worse.

Unlike Republicans, Democrats don’t turn a blind eye to sexual misconduct, and their principles are going to help them win elections in the years to come.

But, I'm not impressed by the "discomfort of a Republican". They should have been uncomfortable when Trump accusers stepped forward, they got over it. They'll get over this. They know how this is played. Just weather the storm, and keep satisfying your donors and you'll be fine.

Remember, they don't work for us. That's an illusion.

Remember how we saw the twisted expression of Sean Spicer when he came out day after day and lied? He knew who he worked for. So he has to be uncomfortable for a while -- the public has a short attention span. They know they just have to get through it.

Meanwhile, we have just cut off our nose to spite our face. We hurt ourselves. We haven't hurt them. Time will tell.

Reckoning is upon the Republican Party.

The issue of sexual harrasment and assault is not going to go away. The cloud over the Republican Party will be ever present everytime Mitch McConnell goes to the microphone and asked about Roy Moore and why he is still in the Senate and Donald Trump still president.

There will be no investigation. Democrats will make angry speeches. They will be ignored. Franken will still resign. Minnesota will have a new Republican Senator in 2019.

With leadership like this, what could possibly go wrong?

Actually, the Republican establishment hates Moore. Here, he ( probably and unfortunately) gets the win, the Republicans have a reason to kick him out of the Senate, after which they get two things: they get to take the moral high ground ( yeah, right) because they refuse to seat him ( balancing out the 'moral high ground' of the Franken resignation - I can't believe I am writing that) and they have a Senator from Alabama who is more palatable to them. Actually, they could come out a little ahead ( insofar as they let the process play out).

I wonder if we will see the democratic senators with Graham for another photo op when that happens.

God, I hope Jones wins.

Big flap by this group just to LOSE a Senate seat. The CONS no doubt are already working overtime on that seat and who in their party will have it. Bring in the Koch machine money and spend $20-50 million on it smearing any Dem running that they are just a Franken "groper" clone and it will be over before it starts.

The senate Democrats threw away one of their fiercest most effective fighters, for what? To embarrass the Republicans? Please, thugs can't be embarrassed; they can only be stopped.

The Mueller Investigation Is in Mortal Danger

"When Mueller was appointed, legal scholars debated whether Trump had the technical authority to fire him, but even the majority who believed he did assumed such a power existed only in theory".

"In August, members of both parties began drawing up legislation to prevent Trump from sacking Mueller".

"In fact, the risk has swelled. Trump has publicly declared any investigation into his finances would constitute a red line, and that he reserves the option to fire Mueller if he investigates them".

"Earlier this month, it was reported that Mueller has subpoenaed records at Deutsche Bank, an institution favored both by Trump and the Russian spy network".

"It is almost a maxim of the Trump era that the bounds of the unthinkable continuously shrink. The capitulation to Moore was a dry run for the coming assault on the rule of law".

Note: Do not underestimate Trump and the current incarnation of the republican party.
Note: They have said that they are at war with any one that dares stand in their way.

affiliation. It's how the assault is handled afterwards is where the big problem is. This is where I can't even stand to watch tRUMP on TV or look at his hands knowing what's he's done w/ them. Disgusting. I don't even see how anyone can shake his hand when they meet him (tRUMP)...Absolutely gross.

This is where the republicans and Moore are going to find it a lot more difficult to have any kind of respect or gain any traction on any issues should they fail to do what's right, especially after the crap w/ tRUMP being overlooked.

1 - don't believe it for 1 second. Nothing has been done about Russia hacking our vote and nothing will be because most repugs are comoplicit. how do we win if Russia hacks the vote for repugs?
- There were a number of districts in MI, WI where the total number of votes for repuglicans exceeded the number of voters.
- IN FL and PA, the no votes for president in Democratic districts were really high, way outside the norm.

Nothing was done about torture by dems when they had a majority for a short while, I would be amazed if they actually go after drumpf or Moore for sex crimes. I hope you are right, but again, don't believe it after seeing Dems be so spineless against someone who's not part of them.

"If Democrats win back the House or Senate, a congressional investigation of those allegations is coming. "

A congressional investigation of Trump is coming if we win regardless of Franken being in the senate or not. Trump will not be removed from office because of sexual misconduct. If he is removed from office it will be because of money laundering or collusion with Russia.

Everyone already knows that Trump is a sexual predator, and conservatives simply don't care. Same holds true for Roy Moore. That dog won't hunt. Period. Sexual misconduct is terrible, but it will not remove someone from office unless they voluntarily resign.

To hope this is the thing that will make them responsible is a pipe dream.
They have an agenda. The short version transfer ALL the wealth in this country to a handful billionaires.

The republican party will let Moore stay long enough to be useful (maybe just one vote on a tax bill).
Then and only then will they "put country first".

Trump will only be allowed to stay for as long as they need him.
They will only jettison him when they no longer need him.

There is a road map of what they are doing. Look to Russia and Putin. Since Putin took complete controlled of Russia he has transferred all of the wealth of the country to a handful of loyal oligarchs.

These are the folks that Trump needs to service his debt. And keep his house of cards afloat.

The party doesn't need to "earn" my vote. It's a given. However, millennials make up a voting block bigger than my baby boomer block; hence, the long game. I'm pretty sure that every party decision is being based on the youth vote data. I just hope that Obama and other popular Dems can motivate the little fuckers to vote.
