Republican Roy Moore refuses to concede in Alabama Senate race, telling supporters, Its not over

Source: WaPo

Moore, however, refused to concede the race, speaking to supporters at about 11:34 p.m. Eastern time. He said he thought the race might go to a recount, which state law requires when a race is within 0.5 percentage points. At that point, Jones’ lead was still larger than that.

“When the vote is this close . . . it’s not over,” Moore said.

Then, Moore – who had spent much of his campaign railing against the news media – asked that the press visit the Alabama secretary of state and ask how the recount provision might be triggered in this case – that “the press will go up there and talk to them to find out what the situation is.”

http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/364617-moore-refuses-to-concede-alabama-senate-race

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore (R) refused to concede the special election Tuesday night after multiple media outlets called the race in favor of his Democratic opponent, Doug Jones.

“At this point, we do not have a final decision on the outcome tonight,” Moore’s campaign chairman Bill Armistead told supporters.

I had a feeling the GOP would have a few tricks to play yet.

I know I know, but a 1.5 point lead. With a Republican stacked court. And a team of deplorable lawyers going through things with a fine tooth comb to find any way they can find a way for a recount. (Its usually only done if there is a less than .5 percent difference).

Thats all they need. Some spurious argument before a Trump judge who will order a recount. Then they'll ramp up the rhetoric and put their hands a little harder down on the scales in many different ways. Sorry, I'm always paranoid these days. I won't exhale until tomorrow if all stays the same.

Getting rid of 14,000 is hard enough, and that would just get them to an automatic recount.

Then they'd have to get rid of 7,000 more.

Nah. If they could or would have done that, they wouldn't have let Jones win in the first place.

from THE HILL:

"The Alabama Supreme Court has reportedly stayed a lower court’s order to election officials that would have required the preservation of voting records in Tuesday’s Senate special election.
A circuit judge on Monday ordered election officials to set voting machines to save all digital ballot images, which would preserve voting records in the event of a recount.
Alabama's AL.com said Tuesday morning that the state's Supreme Court had blocked the order."

This was a back-up plan, along with their forever favorite, scrubbing names from the voter rolls.
Problem is, I think, nobody wants to fight very hard for Roy, 'cause it'd be 40 miles of bad road getting him past an ethics committee and seated.
I think they wanted the victory and then Roy Moore out and the governor to make a replacement.

One decision prevented the destruction of paper ballots after the close of election day.

The other decision overturned the first one, which means that there is no bar to destroying paper ballots.

So, the whinny bastard better get a move on for a recount before the clerks start cleaning up the place.

Wed Dec 13, 2017, 04:41 AM

So, the denominator isn't the % of people who ACTUALLY voted ... and since ... lets say ... 31% of 'eligible' people voted, and the margin was 1.5% then it's actually within .5% of the total POSSIBLE voters ... or something like that ...

Of course they'll count the disenfranchised (people who would've been turned down for lack of ID, being felons, etc) in the denominator to reach the .5% they're looking for ...

Lets just say ... I won't fucking be at ALL surprised if they try to drag this bullshit out with specious legal arguments for as long as possible. And insult the intelligence of every single human being in the world in the process.
