Broken health-care pledge tests Collins-McConnell relationship

BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 12/21/17 06:00 AM EST

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) will be a crucial swing vote for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) next year, but it may be tougher to strike deals with her after McConnell failed to fulfill a pledge on health care.

The moderate senator told reporters this month that she had an “ironclad” commitment from McConnell and Vice President Pence to pass legislation by the end of the year to stabilize ObamaCare premiums. She wanted that assurance before committing her vote for tax reform.

But that vote has now been delayed until January due to opposition from House Republicans.

Collins isn’t accusing McConnell of breaking his pledge, but she is disappointed in the outcome, according to sources familiar with the negotiations on health-care legislation.

How could stabilizing Obamacare premiums even occur?

The only way that could possibly happen was to vote NO on the
Tax giveaway to the Greedy One Percent (GOP).

That January vote will be meaningless.

She's just trying to keep her base, by using this excuse.

If she believed McConnell she's a fool. If not, she's a liar.

A classic example of the perpetrator casting herself as the victim.

Either she's just playing along with McTurtle and is using this as a cover story to blow smoke up her constituents collective ass, or she's a damned idiot for trusting McTurtle. She gets absolutely zero sympathy here, if she really cared about this issue she shouldn't have voted for the tax bill without this provision in it.
