Man arrested, accused of threatening to kill CNN employees
Source: The Hill
A Michigan man was arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot and kill CNN employees, WGCL-TV reported Monday.
The FBI launched an investigation after the man, who is unnamed in the CBS report, reportedly called CNN 22 times about a week ago.
"Fake news. I'm coming to gun you all down, the man told a CNN operator, according to court documents obtained by WGCL-TV.
He allegedly later called CNN again, saying, "I'm smarter than you. More powerful than you. I have more guns than you. More manpower. Your cast is about to get gunned down in a matter of hours."

(22,993 posts)According to the affidavit, Brandon Griesemer, from Novi, made 22 calls to CNN on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, 2018, four of which contained threats.
It all started in September when the Islamic Center of Ann Arbor received a call from a man making derogatory comments relating to the mosque and Muslims.

(10,376 posts)The idea that CNN or MSNBC are some left wing radical networks is insane. These products are owned by huge multinational corporations that are far far far from being left wing.
Okay, I typed and typed and deleted and deleted for fear of being accused of saying both parties are the same again.

(162,131 posts)Brandon Griesemer, of Novi, Michigan, pictured with his family.
A 19-year-old Michigan man is accused of making several threatening phone calls to CNN in early January, calling the news network fake news and saying that he was coming to gun you all down, the FBI says.
Brandon Griesemer, a part-time grocery store worker from Novi, Michigan, was arrested January 19 on a federal threatening charge, according to court documents filed in the Eastern District of Michigan.
Griesemer was charged with transmitting in interstate or foreign commerce a communication or communications containing a threat to kidnap or to injure the person of another, which carries a potential five-year prison sentence if convicted. The FBI and the U.S. Attorneys Office have not commented or issued a statement about the case, which was unsealed on January 19. It was first reported by WGCL-TV in Atlanta.
Griesemers father, Mark Griesemer, told The Washington Post, this whole thing has been a mistake, he really didnt mean any of it. He didnt know what he was saying, the seriousness of it. Were not even gun owners or anything like that. We dont have any, neither does he. More will come out later. Hopefully, this can be settled.

He doesn't look like someone that will do well in prison.

(11,738 posts)Does it bear at all on the guilt or sentencing that the accused lacked the wherewithal to carry out the threats? Guns, in this case, ostensibly.
I don't see why it should - the intent was to terrorize, and the 'target' has no idea of his seriousness or preparedness, so the effect the threats have is the same, either way.
I am far from certain, though.

(8,312 posts)... he *can't* have the ability to gun people down in the future would result. Aka, they won't charge him or let him plea to anything that won't leave a permanent inability to buy guns on his record.
At least, I sincerely hope that if they try to use that as a mitigating factor they go that route.
Calling in bomb threats gets you pretty well convinced by the act regardless of the truth of the bomb, though, so hopefully it won't be considered mitigating.

(12,759 posts)the Sears Tower in Chicago? They didn't have the wherewithal or a coherent plan, but they went down anyway. I'm not sure if they all went to prison, but the ringleader did.
Of course, there are some key differences. The Sears Tower "terrorists" proclaimed allegiance to Al Qaeda. The "plot" was hatched just a few years after 9/11. They were older than 19, I'm pretty sure. And there was a marked difference in the melatonin content of their skin compared to this Michigan CNN terrorist.
