They both despise people who aren't "far," or radical, and often end up against the same people politically.

More, some continue down the extremist path until they end up on the other side, joined in one cause. This time last century, Europe's fascist and commie parties were always trying to seduce each other's people to their side.

As for Manning, there are a whole lot of leakers (and traitors) who never self destruct. When they do as dramatically as, for instance, Manning and Assange, I always wonder if the latest hero could just be some dysfunctional winger throwing out a big symptom.

I don't consider myself 'alt' anything.

And I do not blame the US for all the world's evil; it is the billionaires and big corporations that have created much of the evil with their economic imperialism and exploitation of the third world.

The US does need to come to real terms with a couple of things though - slavery and genocide. These are both parts of our history and until we do confront them as a people, we will continue to have strong undercurrents of racism.

Right now, though, my biggest deal is being part of the resistance, and working to get Dems elected this November so we can impeach and try Cheetoh on treason charges.

THEN, we can argue about capitalism, maybe. We will DEFINITELY argue about universal healthcare.

Have you considered maybe the party is moving a bit to the left?

At the top are the centrist Dems. They run from 330 degrees to 030 degrees.

From 220 to 330 degrees are Liberals. Most of us are in here somewhere.

200 to 220 degrees finds the Progressives. Bernie Sanders is probably 205 degrees - extremely liberal but there are people more liberal than he.

From 030 to 140 are Conservatives, and the Hard Right (think Alex Jones, most of Trump’s Cabinet) is in the 140 to 160 range.

The Alts run from 160 to 200, and they mingle. Sometimes literally. When Adam Kokesh organized his flash mob inside the Jefferson Memorial, many of the people who were in it were from Medea Benjamin’s Code Pink.

It is her notoriety that even gives her any news recognition at all. At this point, there is no polling of her vs Ben Cardin. From various polls, Cardin is at around a 50 percent approval rating. I could not find one that included a split on party, but it is highly likely if he is 50% overall, he is above 50% among Democrats. This would suggest that even a "good", well qualified opponent might have trouble beating him in a primary.

I would bet that Manning having her sentence commuted might be significantly less than 50 percent -- and that does NOT mean all those favoring a commuted sentence think he should be elected to office. There is absolutely nothing she has done that would mean she should be elected to the Senate and serious reasons to consider that she should not be.

I've occasionally found it interesting to ask why, because the answers have always been along the same vague lines that just don't add up.

The first one is "She exposed war crimes" by releasing a video of an incident which was fully investigated, and involved a cameraman for a long lens which was easily mistaken for a weapon within blocks of a hot combat zone. Said "exposed war crimes" added nothing to the incident which had not already been known, and resulted in the prosecution of no one.

The other one is "She exposed US corruption around the world" by an indiscriminate document dump of US State Department communications which, insofar as what was released is concerned, didn't really expose much of anything, but did manage to hurt diplomatic relations by publishing candid opinions of persons in the State Department.

What she did manage to accomplish was to elevate the status of Julian Assange in the brokerage of illicitly obtained materials. Assange has lots of fans here too, and a number of past fans who have gone silent.

I'm curious about Chelsea's background a bit more now. She was born in Oklahoma in a very small town. It wouldn't surprise me at all to know she grew up in a very racist environment. There is a huge majority of the people who enter the service as a last resort to get out of a nowhere place as she may have done. If her home town is like a lot of small, rural places in the USA it was very likely an all-white us-against-them sort of place.

It wouldn't be a big surprise that she turned out to be a racist from a small town who entered the military like for a feeling of power and place.
