Schiff: Nunes gave Trump edited version of memo
Source: The Hill
California Rep. Adam Schiff (D) claimed late Wednesday that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, (R-Calif.) shared with President Trump an edited version of the Republican-crafted memo alleging corrosive abuse of United States surveillance powers by the Justice Department.
Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, made the claims in a letter to Nunes, accusing the committee chair of making "substantive" changes to the controversial memo before sharing it with White House counsel for release.
Those changes, Schiff said, were not approved by the full committee as protocol dictates.
"Discovered late tonight that Chairman Nunes made material changes to the memo he sent to White House changes not approved by the Committee. White House therefore reviewing a document the Committee has not approved for release." Schiff said in a tweet.

(174 posts)This isn't a claim your throw out there without having 100% proof this happened. This claim is a career ender for either man. If Schiff is lying (I highly highly highly doubt that) he's risking his career. If Nunes really went behind the back of the Committee and changed the memo they authorized for released he's done. There is no way he can continue to chair that committee. Especially after the slick shit he tried to pull that got him recused from the Russia investigation. He should've been pulled from the committee then.

(51 posts)I've heard Mueller has been sharing some of the evidence he has on Trump's financials with some state AG's, especially New York's. No pardons, no FBI, no Justice Department with state crimes.
Just a thought, but me thinks that the NY AG charging Trump with a financial crime might throw a small wrench into this "Fire Mueller" campaign.

(51 posts)Sorry, I was referring to the New York State Attorney General. He's a Democrat, prosecuted financial crimes in the past, and Trump has zero influence when it comes to state crimes.
Prosecuting Trump and his kids for state crimes may well be the backup plan if the worst happens and Mueller is shut down. You can bet all the evidence Mueller has collected resides in more than one place.

(17,802 posts)that's not possible under the constitution. family and friends should be fair game though. Of course, trump would just have him arrested. Don't discount that......

(21,836 posts)Putting aside the details for the moment my point is, while Trump and the GOP are trying to divert attention away from Russia, a criminal probe by a state AG into the Trump organization would cause a Trump tantrum. Remember Trump's red line, stay away from his business. A state AG, specifically NY's, very publicly crossing that line would be a nice thing to watch.

(60,159 posts)Nunes is practically waving a red blanket at Mueller now, and Hope Hicks suddenly felt a jolt in her life.
Team Mueller are very busy it seems.
I sure hope someone is keeping the moron up to date.He seems to be rather rattled, hasn't tweeted since before the speech last night.

(8,249 posts)He used "altered" and "material changes"
Edited to me means things are cut out. In his letter he points out that distortions and inaccuracies were left in the new version
I think things were ADDED to the second version of the memo. But what?
Something that Trump would like to see, like the names Clinton or Obama and accusations of them

(51 posts)According the minutes of the Monday meeting where the GOP majority on the Intelligence Committee voted unanimously to release the memo, some Republicans expressed concerns but voted for it anyways.
What is seriously lacking in this case, and many others, is any semblance of backbones by Republicans who can stop this madness. Jellyfish, the lot of them.

(19,107 posts)Because Schiff is so concerned about it being released.
If it was as inconsequential as reported, Schiff wouldn't protest so much about its release.

(5,829 posts)Schiff and Christopher Wray are pushing back against the Nunes memo because it makes false conclusions that serve to discredit the FBI and its sources and methods of obtaining intelligence in order to delegitimize the evidence behind the Mueller probe and to unfairly smear Rosenstein in order to give Trump cover if Trump decides to fire Rosenstein.
