< MILTON, Pierce County Authorities say a 60-year-old man was shot and killed in a road-rage altercation with a female motorcyclist on Interstate 5 south of Seattle.
Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Brooke Bova says the incident happened Thursday afternoon southbound on I-5 in Milton. Bova told The News Tribune that the 23-year-old motorcyclist and man in a car stopped in the left lane of the freeway after a dispute on the road.
Witnesses told responding troopers that the incident became physical and ended when the woman shot the man while they were fighting on the ground. Bova says the woman called 911 and was detained at the scene by troopers.
Bova says the man died at the scene. >

(19,844 posts)but I just blow at them if it's really bad. If it's the normal shit, you just let it go and roll. No one should lose their life over a stupid ass traffic incident.

(4,033 posts)He taught me a number of things. Don't tailgate. Always be courteous, giving the other driver the right-of-way (whether it is his/her turn or not) won't cost you more than a few seconds. And always, always assume the the other driver is going to do something really stupid or rude and know what you are going to do when it happens.
That's my idea of driving like I'm invisible.

And it usually helps. Sometimes I'm still frustrated.
Holding back the finger, etc is the tough part. But that is what can set it off.
Just not worth it. Nobody ever wins.

(1,349 posts)I wonder how much more "courageous" people with guns are, making this type of ending more likely(?) They're not afraid to get into with someone b/c they have their little friend with them.

(33,284 posts)I do believe it makes people take more risk in confrontations.
There's not enough information to assign blame for initiating the incident, and I have no idea what the traffic conditions were (probably bumper-to-bumper) but they both stopped and left their vehicles to escalate it.
Always have and out.

(53,061 posts)mile behind me.
They would hit the accelerator and swerve to get ahead of cars to catch up to me, I would change lanes to try and stay in the same lane so that they couldn't gain on me.
Eventually they pulled up next to me in a large SUV with heavily tinted windows and was aggressively swerving into my lane.
I held up my phone as if I were taking a movie on my phone. I went back to capture their license plate.
They dropped back and I could see young 20 year old guys screaming at me and making menacing gestures.
I kept my phone up in a position where it could clearly record their faces. I could see the people in the SUV discussing my actions.
They quieted down and took the next exit off the freeway.
Someday I am really going to have to figure out how to use the movie camera function on my phone.

(9,963 posts)I live in Texas, and this state thinks its just great for everyone to open carry and always have a gun in the car in case you need to shoot someone! Its insane, but road rage is a serious problem here, and motocyclists are often the most vulnerable. A couple of years ago, a man near Houston thought a cyclist had cut him off so he chased him down and caused the cyclist to crash, killing him. I have lived and driven in the largest cities in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusettsand the drivers here are the worst I have ever experienced. Every time I go out, I go into defensive mode and assume that every driver around me is going to do something stupid. And they do but I rarely use my horn. You never know when a nut will just stop and try to shoot you! One of the worst offenses here is running red lightsnot just when theyre changing but also when they have changed and the cars in the other direction are already moving into an intersection. Just nuts!

(18,570 posts)But other reports indicate when traffic came to a stop, the man pulled along side of the motorcyclist and exited his vehicle. Likely he was the aggressor and possibly she could not avoid the encounter.
Hopefully traffic cameras and witnesses can help determine if it was self defense or homicide.

(18,570 posts)But I will always side with the victim of an assault. I don't believe anyone should have to take a beating for the good of society.
Then again if it is not self defense I am more than willing to support full prosecution and punishment.
Learned a new word today, thanks.

(7,358 posts)Let those who want to get around you do so. Ignore their middle finger gestures, and do not have any verbal exchange. Ignore them. Motorcyclists are of a different 'breed'. It's a dangerous mode of transportation.

(8,747 posts)They ride machines that are fast, have quick acceleration, are noisy, and highly manueverable. Plus they often split lanes, that pisses people off, even where it is legal. The cyclist may have done something, may have done nothing.

(2,201 posts)...and not the age of the woman that shot him.
What's so special about being 60? I guess there was a time long ago when I thought of 60-year olds as helpless, and frail. But now that I'm in my fifties, I know better.
I suppose I could see them (at least for now) putting the guy's age in the headline if he was 90.

(2,948 posts)Maybe 4 guns, one in each of their hands? Maybe 6 guns? One in each hand and another tucked in their belt? Or maybe 8 guns? Maybe more? How many more guns needed to prevent this? A hundred guns? We really need to prevent this, and Ive been told that more guns will prevent senseless gun violence, so please please someone, anyone!
Go ahead make my day, tell me that more guns would have prevented this, and Ill tell you to go fuck yourself. So sick of this shit. Sick of the bullshit arguments.

(21,105 posts)the story says that they were wrestling on the ground when he was shot. He may have instigated the entire affair...may have knocked her off her bike....make have been punching her in the face....she may have shot him in self defense.
We need to know more.
