Trumps Longtime Lawyer Says He Paid Stormy Daniels Out of His Own Pocket
Source: New York Times
Michael D. Cohen, President Trumps longtime personal lawyer, said on Tuesday that he paid $130,000 out of his own pocket to a pornographic-film actress who had once claimed to have had an affair with Mr. Trump.
In the most detailed explanation of the 2016 payment made to the actress, Stephanie Clifford, Mr. Cohen, who worked as a counsel to the Trump Organization for more than a decade, said he was not reimbursed for the payment.
Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly, Mr. Cohen said in a statement to The New York Times. The payment to Ms. Clifford was lawful, and was not a campaign contribution or a campaign expenditure by anyone.
He declined to answer several follow-up questions, including whether Mr. Trump had been aware that he made the payment, what the motivation was or whether he had made similar payments to other people over the years.

(2,309 posts)If it's reate/kickback, then Cohn needed to send a 1099 to Trump and Trump needed a 1099 and Trump needed to report it as income (or reduce his legal expenses deducted). If it's a gift, Cohn needed to file a gift tax return. Also, I would think gifts of that size would violate ethical canons for lawyers.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trumps-lawyer-wrote-presidents-sloppy-tweet-flynns-dismissal/story?id=51541650
President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, John Dowd, says he drafted the president's Saturday morning tweet that stated he fired former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for lying not only to Vice President Mike Pence but also to the FBI.
"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI," Trump tweeted at 9:14 a.m. on Saturday. "He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!"
Dowd told ABC News he wrote those words. A second source who corroborated that Dowd had written the tweet called it "sloppy."
It's unclear who actually sent out the tweet, but Dowd said he gave the drafted message to the president's social media director Dan Scavino.
