Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his prosecutors havent concluded their investigation into whether President Donald Trump or any of his associates helped Russia interfere in the 2016 election, according to a person with knowledge of the probe.
Fridays indictment of a St. Petersburg-based troll farm and 13 Russian nationals should be seen as a limited slice of a comprehensive investigation, the person said. Muellers work is expected to continue for months and also includes examining potential obstruction of justice by Trump, said the person, who requested anonymity to discuss an investigation that is largely confidential.
A federal grand jury indicted the Russians for what it alleged was a vast scheme to interfere in the 2016 election and help Trump win. But Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said at a news conference Friday that there is no allegation in this indictment that any American was a knowing participant in the alleged scheme.
Trump indicated that he believes the indictment exonerates him and his campaign.

(7,286 posts)The Mueller camp don't leak. This came out for a reason
Of course there is more results coming. They have not said this concludes our investigation
They didn't interview, Bannon, Gates, Kushner et al just to get some Russian trolls

(12,448 posts)to protect the investigation. It will be VERY hard, close to impossible, for Trump to fire either Rosenstein or Mueller after this.
Yes, indeed, there will be more coming. There are sealed indictments, and Gates still has to sing. Bannon already has done trilled his arias (is he a tenor?) Lots to go through. They're not close to being finished.

(13,563 posts)me Trump isnt involved. Why else would he keep disparaging the FBI and all involved in this investigation. Why would he keep calling it a witch hunt and a hoax. Ill bet he speaks with Putin every week getting marching orders from him.

(157 posts)Today was the establishment of the facts that will prove a conspiracy existed. All Mueller has to do now is provide evidence to Congress that Trump and his campaign assisted the conspiracy and they will have everything they need for impeachment. This also makes it easier to impeach him on the obstruction charges if they want to simply stop there because they will have additional crimes to support the reasoning behind the obstruction. Mueller will likely have to wait until after the November election for everything to be in place however.

(35,359 posts)It's an indictment.
It alleges facts. Those could have been alleged in a rather different indictment.
Where did I say it was a verdict?

(46,082 posts)Could this be a leak from within the investigation? There have been so few until now.

(30,613 posts)...that Mueller is obviously attacking multiple angles, and beginning to reel in the fish.
To me it seems that the "person with knowledge" is hardly saying anything surprising.

(14,176 posts)We have to be mentally prepared to accept that Mueller may never bring a charge of collusion. Either because he really does not have quite enough hard evidence or because he, in the end, is not the shining knight we all hoped, and is convinced by his Republican peers that for the stability of the county (and his party) he simply cannot indict half the government.
That in the end it will be some Russians, and a few early Trump campaign workers, that will be the only ones indicted. And because of that, Trump will use that non-indictment as proof of his innocence and of his claims of a 'witch-hunt'. And after Hannity and company go full raving mouth-foaming offensive against Democrats, fake news, and the 'deep state' so unfairly targeting their Dear Leader, Trump will have even more support than last election, for 2020. Enough, with Russia's help again, to win once more.
You know, Trump is such a easy mark, who is so susceptible to flattery, and also kompromat blackmail because of his unethical past, and don't forget $, that he may very well have never actually sat in meetings colluding with Putin or his representatives. He may never have gotten details about FB memes. He is such an narcissistic idiot that all it would take is a few like Manafort to work with Putin behind closed doors, and the idiot in chief would never have to know. Why?....because Trump is such a narcissist that he would believe every CT about Hillary, he would believe that he doesn't have to cheat to win, he could be the perfect Manchurian candidate because he has no clue he is one.

(35,359 posts)It's unclear what his goals are. We know the goals he's been assigned. They may be congruent. They may be at least partly different.
If different, they may agree with DUers' goals in whole or in part. Or they may be completely divergent.
First, figure out what the logical possibilities are. Then pick among them on the basis of the evidence. Don't first assume uniformity of goal, and then pick the evidence to support that conclusion.

(958 posts)When Trump tries to explain away his direct involvement in colluding with the Russians by saying "They were acting independently against all candidates!", Mueller will be able to say "No, we have already caught those guys, now we are indicting YOU!"
