The 2018 Election Started Tuesday With One Jaw-Dropping Stat
Source: Mother Jones
The 2018 election officially began on Tuesday with the first day of early voting ahead of Texas March 6th primaries. Evidently, a lot of people got the message. In Harris County, which includes Houston and is the states largest population center, Republican turnout was 25-percent higher than the first day of early-voting in the 2014 primaries. That makes some sensetheres an expensive state house of representatives race in the county and an open Republican-leaning congressional district. But whats more surprising is the turnout jump on the Democratic sidea full 300 percent.

(12,620 posts)questionnaires from the DNC: what are your most important issues? the economy, education, abortion, etc. etc. Every year, I cross them all out and write: "Getting the right wing out of government!"
If we don't do that, we can't accomplish anything.

(5,801 posts)has led to blatant looting and egregious corruption. Let's hope former puke-leaning voters have wised up. The 1/3 or so cultists might not get it but there are a lot of people who thought they were voting for "lower taxes and fiscal responsibility" by voting puke who have now seen what they actually got. No hiding any more for the puke congress, let alone the idiot in the White House.

(19,195 posts)Don't get me wrong, a 300% increase in Democratic voters is absolutely nothing to sneeze at, but unless we get every Democrat - and left-leaning Independent - to the polls on November 6, we're asking to be railroaded by the GOP Cheat Machine.
Not this year. Not ever again. GOTV!

A big reason for that turnout boost: the extremely competitive Democratic primary in the states seventh congressional district.

Whats also notable is that two of those four leading candidates vying for a spot in the May runoffLizzie Pannill Fletcher, the lawyer, and Laura Moser, the writer-turned-activistare women.
That might not be such a big deal in a lot of places, but its highly unusual in Texas. There are just three women in the states 36-member congressional delegation, and its been that way for a while [...]
It seems to me that people are stirred up. They want progress and change. The flood of new candidates, especially women, is evidence of that and a motivation for voters.
