Pence says abortion will end in U.S. 'in our time'
Source: The Hill
BY JESSIE HELLMANN - 02/27/18 02:56 PM EST
Vice President Mike Pence predicted Tuesday abortion would end in the U.S. "in our time."
"I know in my heart of hearts this will be the generation that restores life in America," Pence said at a luncheon in Nashville, Tenn., hosted by the Susan B. Anthony List & Life Institute, an anti-abortion organization. "If all of us do all we can, we can once again in our time restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law."
Pence has long championed anti-abortion policies, as a congressman and later as the governor of Indiana.
He told the crowd he has seen more progress in the past year than he has in his entire life.

(17,047 posts)If this health service is outlawed, women (and men) will resort to old-fashioned, age-old methods. Nature is going to win. Humankind has realized that for millennia and for millennia has tried to outsmart what is as relentless as a tidal wave.

(16,646 posts)I think he meant "legal" abortions.
Although, since it was legal when the constitution was written, shouldn't the "originalists" on the SC insist that it still be legal?

(32,640 posts)from unsafe, illegal, self-induce abortions will be irrelevant.
The ones that survive will be dealt with, along with those who helped them.

They hate abortion because it cuts down on the number of available people they can send to war, not because "life is precious", if they believed that, guns would be banned, the USA would not go to war with made-up reasons, they would make sure the economy is good for all to make sure no starvation occurs, universal healthcare would be available, etc. etc.
So many things to preserve life they refuse to do...

(37,748 posts)The GOP has been very successful in its attempt to deny the reality of Roe v Wade to so many women in need, while leaving the original court case alone. By arguing smaller exceptions in court, they have over the past thirty years reduced access to women's health services to practically nothing in many rural areas such as west Texas.
A slow death to an extremely popular law by a thousand little cuts... yet we read posts daily on DU that, if applied consistently to other rights and laws, directly imply that what the GOP did is impossible. Posts such as...
"it certainly has not been a winning issue"
"Pointless grandstanding"
"good luck getting elected by taking away our rights"
"won't even come to a vote"
These were various C&P from other issues/posts as applied to this one to illustrate the lack of perspective and the fallacy of the "It'll never happen" prophecies.

(7,434 posts)The GOP is against health care for all, against education for all, against public safety, against food safety, against product safety, against gun safety/control. They're fine with unregulated assault weapons in public and only perform lip service to keeping students safe. So they're pro-death by assault weapons. Basically, they're pro-death AND pro-birth. And they're only pro-birth to capture voters who believe that the GOP is on their side, with little evidence of "pro-life" policies.
Pence is a hypocrite. Pence is pro-Pence.

He is anti-women having sex for mere pleasure without the yoke - I mean blessing - of pregnancy after pregnancy.
He is pro-enforced childbearing as a consequence of sex. Or rape.

(15,557 posts)there was "Our Bodies, Ourselves" - a groundbreaking book that had a section that said the same thing. What's changed now is that there are many, many, many female doctors - in fact I think in med schools, the females outnumber the males. Most of those female doctors are from the younger generations and abortion and birth control are just a given to those women.
Besides, ole' Pencey boy will be dead before they will. He is such a mental case when it comes to women's bodies. Probably thinks they're "yucky".
What an ass. Legal abortion is not going away.

(12,600 posts)We'll be back to where we are before Roe v. Wade.
Rich people will always be able to fly somewhere that abortion is legal.
"Right-to-Life" means the absolute protection of the fetus at all costs -- even going so far as to end birth control. Once the child is born, f*ck them and their mother.
Ending abortion is the imposition of a minority of men imposing their religious beliefs on all women.

(22,176 posts)wanted to revert to how it was before Roe vs. Wade and women's rights? Don't ignore what we've already learned from history and that outlawing abortions doesn't work. It didn't in the past, and abortions will go underground and kill more unfortunately to be in this sad position. It's terrible for all involved.

(7,755 posts)pill that is so cheap and safe, and so easily available, that no women ever has to worry about an abortion again. I want it to become one of those things that all women have in their homes. That they use as a matter of routine if they think there might be even a possibility that they might get pregnant after an encounter.

(130 posts)..A Dutch news channel back around 2002 or so that reported how the Dutch were providing abortion services for Irish women in international waters 5 miles or so off the coast of Ireland (where abortions are/were illegal). Doctors, nurses, sterile facilities onboard. Picked the women up in Dublin, went out to sea, provided the services, returned them back to Dublin. I wondered then if this might be a solution in the U.S. if Roe v. Wade was ever overturned.

If you have U.S., Canadian, etc., the Dutch will require you to have an employment contract first & you have to get your work visa in the country you're coming from, the Dutch won't allow you to get it there.
