At Republican Conference, Trump Slams Clinton For Recent Statement On Women

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Nicole Lafond | March 21, 2018 7:46 am

More than a full year into his presidency, President Donald Trump slammed his former political Hillary Clinton in a speech to Republican allies on Tuesday evening.

Trump mocked Clinton for her recent statement on women, which was met with heavy criticism from Democrats, and said “people are disavowing her” like “I’ve never heard before.”

“Her last statement about women––they have to get approval from the husbands, the sons, and their male bosses to vote for Trump? That was not a good statement!” he said at a National Republican Congressional Committee dinner Tuesday. “Not good! You notice how fast the Democrats have run from these statements now? People are disavowing her statements like I’ve never heard before. ‘She’s wrong!’… ‘What is she doing?’ “Why doesn’t she just go home?’”

Clinton claimed last week that white women in the U.S. “caved” to their husband’s wishes when voting for Trump in the 2016 election. She has since clarified her statements in a lengthy Facebook post over the weekend and apologized for the way the comments came across.

Hillary gave this asshole a nice serving of Red Bull for his base with those comments. Those who dump on me for saying that, kindly detail what incremental political benefits simultaneously accrued to Democrats.

Right wingers. They are trying to demonize active member of congress like Pelosi, Feinstein, and Waters...but as Hillary is the most well known, they continue to trash her and when she isn't appropriate, they go to Obama.

Sh#tholes.

I think the current terminology is that she "walked it back".

has never had to apologize for anything, ever. That blew me away. What a narcissistic thing to say.

What kind of life has the occupant of the white house lived if he's never made mistakes or did something wrong that required an apology.

How about apologizing to the ex wives and current wife for screwing around on them. GAH.

Instead of "walk[ing] it back", I think she gave the press and the audience a chance at a "do-over".

Round 1: Misleading (but clicky!) headlines, focus on the most sensational, clutching of pearls, fainting (and feinting) spells, big uproar

Round 2: Redirect to the real message instead of the sensationalized pieces, lesser uproar, more thinking

Round 3: Hmmm. Base at around 35 to 37%, approval rating slightly higher, voters around 46%. Between those who voted for TrumPutin and those who approve is a significant number of voters, even more if compared to his base. No need to spend time and effort on angry, "economically insecure" white male supporters -- they're still in the "vast right-wing conspiracy" propaganda bubble. How 'bout those women? Might need to fine-tune outreach.

Compare the above to "basket of deplorables". Does anybody now still deny that at least a third of TrumPutin's base is, indeed, unredeemable and belong in a basket of deplorables? Yet at the time of her statements, people were ready to crucify her.

Hillary Clinton is a policy/political geek. She thrives on digging into details of such problems and finding at least a grain of a solution.

(The above round 3 is my best guess at what she's looking at. I'm not good at politics, but have no doubt that whoever the message is intended to reach, she made 'em look again).

Assuming he makes it that far, I encourage the Cheeto and the rethugs to constantly run against Clinton. In 2018, 2020 and forever. They can’t give up on 26 years of hate and nothing shows irrelevance and vapidity than running against a private citizen who is not running for office.
