Trump Renews Amazon Attack, Says Post Office Scam' Must StopThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by NH Ethylene (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). President Donald Trump lit into Amazon.com Inc. for the second time in three days with a pair of Twitter messages that said the online retailer “must pay real costs (and taxes) now!” The president on Saturday claimed, citing reports he didn’t specify, that the U.S. Postal Service “will lose $1.50 on average for each package it delivers for Amazon” and added that the “Post Office scam must stop.” Amazon has said the postal service, which has financial problems stretching back for years, makes money on its deliveries. Amazon shed $53 billion in market value on Wednesday after Axios reported that the president is “obsessed” with regulating the e-commerce giant, whose founder and chief executive officer, Jeff Bezos, also owns the Washington Post newspaper. Those losses were pared on Thursday, the final day of a shortened trading week, even as Trump tweeted that Amazon was using the postal service as its “Delivery Boy.” White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said on Thursday that while the president was displeased with the e-commerce giant, and particularly instances where third-party sellers on the site didn’t collect sales tax, there were no administrative actions planned against Amazon “at this time.” Read more: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-31/trump-says-amazon-s-post-office-scam-must-stop-in-fresh-attack Much more at link Hard to believe Trump is so obsessed with this, or maybe it isn't. Everything he's criticizing Amazon for could also be level at the energy companies he promotes, subsidizes, deregulates at taxpayer expense - cost wise and healthwise. Presidents should not be able to destroy companies, stock values, and lives with tweets or even policies - which should at least be cloaked in theory, cost-benefit analysis, or general principle. This is just one-off, let's blast Amazon.

2. Of course the USPS is the "delivery boy." THAT'S WHAT THEY DO!
They deliver stuff! And they are making money on Amazon deliveries, not losing it. By law the USPS can't enter into a contract that would cause it to lose money, and even at a discounted rate they are delivering packages that wouldn't be delivered at all, by them or anyone else, at any price.
Agent Orange has got his tiny willy in a crack over Amazon because (a) Jeff Bezos also owns the Washington Post, which he hates, and (b) Amazon is taking business from brick and mortar stores, some of which are in Manhattan and occupying Trump-owned buildings. Also, Bezos is way richer than Trump, which must really stick in Trump's craw. |

10. I'm sure Hannity is right on top of it.
Isn't he (and Fox and Friends) the source of many of the "facts" IQ45 qoutes?
I hope someone follows this up with SHS. |

4. Trump has no control over the postal service.
It gets no money from the government. When trump says look over here? Look over there? He is looking to ruin the postal service just like every republican before him. They want it privatized .

8. They probably have a contract with Amazon according to which
Amazon pays less than "retail." But by law the USPS can't enter into any contract under which they lose money, and they are paid for delivering packages that, but for Amazon, would not be delivered at all. So, no scam.

7. This is a shakedown of rival oligarchs, pure and simple.
As someone mentioned with Brad Parscales tweeting, maybe he wants Amazon's customer data or to ensure its not weaponized against his campaign.
But Trump wants Bezos to pay up and agree to some political rat-f---king. Bada-Bing... |

15. "Amazon shed 53 billion in market value"
Because puppet tweeted about it?, WTF?.
Wouldn't that be grounds for a lawsuit? considering where it came from and why?. Bezos has more money than puppet so he can't be cowed but what gets me is Amazon lost that much because of a flippin tweet?. Doesn't that say something about Wall Street and either how fragile or how idiotic that system has become?. WTF over... |
