Esty says she will not seek reelection
Source: Connecticut Mirror
Washington Under increasing pressure to resign, U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty announced Monday afternoon that she will not seek re-election in November.
Early Monday Esty had asked the House Ethics Committee to determine if there was any wrongdoing in how she handled the firing of a chief-of-staff who has been accused of abusing and harassing members of her staff.
In a letter to the ethics committee, Esty, D-5th District, asked the Ethics Committee for an expedited review of her case.
Later on Monday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., broke her silence on the issue, saying Esty did right in seeking a decision from the ethics committee.

This was rated as a SAFE-D seat; however, there's a strong likelihood that the Republicans could take the Governorship, which might push up Republican turnout.
Dan Roberti, an acquaintance of mine ran against Esty for the nomination when the seat was vacant in 2012; will need to check if he's considering another run.

(11,301 posts)is not liked, even though he's not running he's left a bad taste. Hopefully Democrats will come out in droves just to vote against the Trump Republican Party. What a disaster.

(5,522 posts)I wont defend Esty for what she did, but this is purely political. If a Republican did this, they would have their entire party behind them. Since Esty is a Democrat, she suddenly has to resign.

"Esty has been at the center of a growing controversy since news broke last week of her handling of alleged sexual misconduct by her former chief of staff Tony Baker. She did not dismiss him for three months after learning he had verbally abused and punched Anna Kain, a member of her staff.
When she did dismiss Baker, she gave him a job recommendation, $5,000 in severance and signed a non-disclosure agreement concerning the details of his termination. "
