Police See Disturbing Trend Of Dogs Found Shot, Killed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A disturbing number of animals are turning up shot and dumped - left to die. It's a disturbing new development that has owners and police especially concerned.

NewsChannel 5 reported a spike in the number of canine thefts in Middle Tennessee that was possibly connected to a local theft ring.

That trend has grown more disturbing rather than just disappearing, they're being killed. One beagle did survive. It was shot in the head and found dumped in a bag. Thankfully, veterinarians in Winchester were able to save the dog.

But others were not so lucky. Concerned citizens have sent in photos of dogs found shot and then dumped, some by the side of the road, in a half-dozen middle Tennessee counties. "It think it's horrible and we need to figure out why it's happening and who is doing it," said Veterinarian Allison Fields at the Hermitage Animal Clinic in Davidson County.

These dogs were shot with guns in more rural counties. Now, many wonder if some of them were among the many stolen in recent months.

This is the previous story which covers the thefts:

What the hell is wrong with people? We are driving down to Nashville on Saturday to adopt another Great Pyrenees. Sounds like a good thing in more ways than one.

Yes, Trump is the cause of a lot of the hatred and bigotry we're seeing out there. He's not the source of all evil in the world though. Remarks like this are just ridiculous. There is nothing to suggest that he motivated these attacks on dogs.

I think that's a pretty ridiculous thing to say since it assumes far more influence and power for a single person than is possible. He's a total asshole, an awful person, and a terrible President, but it's frankly ludicrous to think he's responsible for 95% of the bad things that happen in America. It's as absurd as the people screaming that he's LITERALLY HITLER, YOU GUYS.

But if you want to say absurd and ridiculous things, go for it. Don't be surprised when others point out that you're saying absurd and ridiculous things, though.

There has been animal abuse before tRump and there will be animal abuse after tRump.

You really don't have to stretch like this to find bad things to pin on tRump.

Things that never were acceptable before are now encouraged. But I think the NRA had a lot to do with giving us Trump - more than Trump did in popularizing the NRA.

losers steal dogs to sell to a loser middleman but not all dogs are accepted. Happened in my community. Dogs were stolen out of yards. The buyer suspected of being the middleman was a county hero so nothing was done that I know of.

I just got a feeling that this is practice by a fringe group. Their real target will be people but after they have honed their shooting skills and are no longer affected by the sight of blood, etc.

I've seen nothing in our local newspapers about it, and this is a state of dog lovers where people would be outraged about such a thing. In Maine, they have to bring up rescue dogs from the south because we have a shortage of dogs to adopt. Our shelters here require animals be spayed before they're adopted, so we have a very low number of stray dogs.

on their property, both front and back yards. And everyone's dogs should be chipped.

And put GPS trackers on their collars would also be a good idea. Of course the thieves would remove the collars but that could be trace for some distance.

I hope these monsters are caught and prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law.

Thanks for posting this, Bayard.

Many puppy mill owners with shoot dogs they cannot sell because they're too cheap to have them humanely euthanized.
