It's pretty frightening. Yes. Hillary won 3 million more votes than Trump in the popular count, but overall, we Democrats are not doing well.
And just attacking those who advocate for thoughtful review of our Party and constructive change will not get us anywhere.
kinda hard to argue...

(29,685 posts)And there are a variety of factors involved, including the consolidation of media and vote suppression tactics that we should have been concerned about for a long time, not to mention Citizens United, which, if the so-called left hadn't demonized Al Gore so much in 2000, would never have become law because we would have had better justices.
No one is arguing those numbers. But right now, as Democrats actually have real momentum and are picking up seats, is not the time to start with the divide-and-conquer tactics.
The third-party candidates who are ostensibly from the left need to focus their attacks on conservatives. It made no sense that Jill Stein ran against Hillary, not Trump, nor that Nader ran against Gore, not Bush. We don't have a parliamentary system here where you can have parties form coalitions and alliances.

(12,882 posts)Maybe you were on hiatus to Mars at the time, but he's the primary hopeful who drew ENORMOUS crowds of folks yearning for REAL change - not nicey-cutesy changes, but FUNDamental changes to governing that would impact EVERY strata of American humanity. The one that didn't take a dime of corporate moolah while others in the race were charging thousands of dollars for a plate of catered chicken and trimmings. The people who coughed up those tabs weren't looking for anything in return - they usually paid thousands of dollars for their daily fare, even without a celebrity guest at the table! But of course - as we know now - Bernie "lost" due to his unpalatable message. Just WHO his message was unpalatable to, I ain't sayin'. It's against clubhouse rules, you see.

Sanders needs to stop referring to President Obama. He isn't in the same league as President Obama OR Dr. King.

(7,712 posts)Sanders has a point, maybe somebody should address that instead of ad hominem attacks. Stop looking to avoid blame and start looking for solutions. Saying an extraordinary man like president Obama overshadowed weakness elsewhere is not a slam on Obama.
I don't know if there's a "Bernie's angle", but there's certainly an anti-Bernie crusade being waged by some. And "dog whistles"? That's a bit judgmental.
Save the venom for Republicans, they are the ones who have vowed to destroy Democrats.

I'm sorry, but I don't see it as that at all.
Bernie is pointing out that we have to learn to talk about kitchen table issues in a much more compelling way if we want to win elections.
There HAS been something wrong with our message. I mean, in 2012, one of my state's US Senators, a Democratic incumbent, was defeated by a right wing-nut when he should have won handily. But he ran such a sorry campaign that it was like swishing warm water around in your mouth - he lost because NOBODY really had any idea of what he stood for.
Before getting up in arms about someone who says something that makes us feel a bit uncomfortable, let us ask the right question first: Is what he says true? Is it partly true?

That said, I DO think the D party needs to adopt a more fundamentally populist stance. It doesn't take a PhD for any person to understand that a living wage, universal healthcare, and affordable and accessible higher education is in their personal best interest.
Too bold? Not any bolder than the other side's assault on LGBTQ rights, voting rights, choice, etc., etc. Really? What the hell. The weak, non-commital, milquetoast stance of the party is killing us.
