Notice that Schiller quit shortly after making that statement to Nunnes' committee.

I have a feeling he didn't want to continue to be in a position where he had to keep exposing himself to legal jeopardy over and over again.

First he walks a tight rope in front of the House committee by answering the question that way. Opening himself up to potential perjury charges. He also hand delivered the 'you're fired' letter to Comey's office while Comey was in California, thus opening himself up to being an accessory to obstruction of justice. I can see why the big goon wanted to get out of there.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
