New poll has Heller and Rosen neck-and-neck, as voters give high marks to ACA, low marks to Trump

Republican Sen. Dean Heller and his likely Democratic challenger Rep. Jacky Rosen are still polling neck-and-neck just six months ahead of the 2018 general election.

A new poll by Public Policy Polling, a left-leaning firm, finds that Rosen leads Heller by a 44 to 42 percent margin, with 14 percent of voters still undecided. The poll also found a plurality of Nevadans said they supported the Affordable Care Act, and with a majority saying they disapproved of both Heller and President Donald Trump’s job performance.

The poll surveyed 637 Nevada voters using automated telephone interviews between April 30 and May 1 on behalf of Health Care Voter — a coalition of progressive groups emphasizing health care as a major campaign issue — and has a 3.9 percent margin of error.

The overall results are also similar to a poll conducted by The Mellman Group for The Nevada Independent in mid-April, which found Heller and Rosen to be essentially tied at a 40 to 39 percent margin in the race.

Heller targets Rosen for her support of the Iran nuclear deal

The 2015 deal struck with Iran to curb its nuclear weapons program is getting attention in the Senate race, with Sen. Dean Heller targeting Rep. Jacky Rosen, his likely opponent in the November general election, as soft on Iran and not standing with Israel.

“Who does Jacky Rosen stand with? Iran … or #Israel? Based on her record of supporting the #IranDeal, we all know the answer. #nvsen,” Heller said in a tweet posted Tuesday.

That tweet followed one from Monday when Heller said: “The #IranDeal was a sham that never empowered the United States and only put our allies in danger. Still, Jacky Rosen:
1. Supported the Iran Deal 2. Said it would be ‘risky’ to decertify the deal 3. Co-signed a letter to Pres. Trump asking him to continue the deal.”

Rosen’s campaign took offense that Heller would cast Rosen, who is Jewish, as against Israel and in league with Iran, citing her activism in the Jewish community as president of Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson.

“.@RosenforNevada is the former president of NV’s largest synagogue – she has a strong record in Congress of supporting Israel & holding Iran accountable. Desperate accusation that Jacky doesn’t stand with Israel is false, pathetic & offensive – @DeanHeller should apologize #NVSen,” communications director Stewart Boss tweeted Tuesday................

6. Remember the clip with Heller sitting next to Trump and Trump basically said something

about Heller wanting to stay the Senator from NV. He put the fear of god into Heller and Heller was scared Trump would go after him-maybe call him a nick name. so Heller caved that day!

4. Henderson, NV is my bellwhether

I have a small service company in Las Vegas and clients in nearby Henderson. It's primarily gated enclaves, about as conservative as it gets in Nevada without venturing out into the mostly empty counties north of us. Even there, they're not what I would call 'typical' Republican voters.

I have yet to see a Heller yard sign and Henderson is his home turf. Saw one for Danny Tarkanian for that district's House race today, but no Heller signs.

Funny thing is nobody had a Trump sign out last presidential election...and I mean no one. I think they were too embarrassed.
