Parkland Student Rips Trump Over NRA Speech: "He's A Professional Liar"

Source: The Hill

On Saturday, a survivor of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting slammed President Trump for speaking at the National Rifle Association (NRA) Leadership Forum the previous day by calling him a "professional liar."

Cameron Kasky, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, made the comments during an appearance on CNN's "New Day."

"He's a professional liar who will say anything to appease whatever crowd he's at," Kasky said. "If he's in front of families he might say something in support of common sense gun reform, but then when he's at the NRA he'll say something to get a big cheer."

Trump spoke at the NRA meeting for the third year in a row on Friday, delivering an impassioned defense of the Second Amendment and praising the NRA as a "great organization."

In the weeks following the Parkland shooting, Trump suggested that he would be open to action on gun control and taking on the NRA, and even criticized a GOP lawmaker for being "afraid" of the gun-rights lobby.

Kasky on Saturday also elaborated on a tweet he posted earlier this week mocking the NRA over the Secret Service's decision to ban firearms during Trump and Vice President Pence's speeches at the meeting... Read more, brief article...

wanted to take away their 2cd amendment rights. But no democrats have ever even attempted to do that. And if they wanted to, they couldn't. All the while, the regressive right has attacked the first amendment rights of the American people.

All most Americans want (including many gun owners) is to make it harder for people to own weapons of mass destruction. Nobody is, or ever has, wanted to take away a citizens right to own a gun for sports or protection. Most Americans want to make it harder, if not impossible, for assault weapons to be manufactured illegally, sold illegally, and owned illegally.

And if a person would take a look at the history of the 2cd amendment, it was never even intended to give individuals the right to own a gun. That was intended to be left up to each individual state. The initial intent of the 2cd amendment has always been to allow the individual states that comprise the USA to maintain a state militia, to protect the states from the federal goverment. And that interpretation had successfully survived several Supreme Court challenges, keeping the rights of individuals a matter for the states to decide. That is why state laws regarding guns still to this day vary from state to state.
It wasn't until 2008 in the Supreme court case, District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008, was it decided that a citizens right to have a gun was protected by the 2cd amendment.

So regardless of what the regressive right would have their stooges believe, the individual right to own a gun has only been protected by the 2cd amendment for about 10 years.

Fuck the NRA

Pity the parents can't or won't match their kids anger
and frustration with demonstrations of their own.

I think a responsible parent would actively support those young people by facilitating the growth of their argument and its foundation rather than potentially overshadowing it with their own rant.

and you keep saying it. You and David and Emma and Alix and all the others. Stay strong. Stay vocal. Stay focused. Eventually they will have no choice but to address you all. .

As Tanzil Philip said: " . . . to everyone at the NRA: We are not afraid of you, We will not be silenced by anything you have to say."

Keep your heads High and talk your Talk. Sooner or later, the rest of the country will catch up. We just have to show them a better way.
