Fears grow as Israel and Iran edge closer to conflict

Israel and Iran have been urged to step back from the brink after their most serious direct confrontation, with Israeli missiles being fired over war-torn Syria in a wide-scale retaliatory attack many fear could drag the foes into a spiralling war.
Hostilities erupted after Donald Trumps announcement on Tuesday that the US was pulling out of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, a move that infuriated Tehran and raised tensions across the Middle East.
Already roiling from civil wars in Syria and Yemen, in recent months the region has seen Israel and Iran increasingly warn of an impending conflict.
On Thursday, Israel claimed it hit nearly all key Iranian military targets in Syria during strikes launched in response to a rocket attack on its troops in the occupied Golan Heights it blamed on Iran.

(6,289 posts)Its obvious they both want a war badly. Just let the two blow each other to bits. At least theyll get what they always wanted.
Might as well include Palestine as well, because they can never shut up about killing Jews. May the best country win the grand prize (hundreds of thousands dead, mass devastation, nothing of worth accomplished, etc.)

(55,044 posts)Someday historians will look back at this time period in the same way they do the months running up to August 1914, the 1930s, and various wars of imperial origins. "The Arms of Krupp" comes to mind as it documents armaments manufacture post 1587.
Destabilizing our treaties and world order leads one place. Yes, it is intentional. The question is whether conflicts will become too large to control.
