Homeland Security Secretary Defends Separating Families Who Cross Border Illegally

Source: NPR

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen defended the administration's "zero tolerance" policy that calls for separating families who cross the border illegally, saying the undocumented immigrants shouldn't get special treatment.

"That's no different than what we do every day in every part of the United States — when an adult of a family commits a crime," she told NPR. "If you as a parent break into a house, you will be incarcerated by police and thereby separated from your family."

"Illegal aliens should not get just different rights because they happen to be illegal aliens," she added.

In a wide-ranging interview with NPR's John Burnett airing on All Things Considered, Nielsen stood by the policy announced earlier this week as well as the administration's broader crackdown on illegal immigration, saying her department is merely following the law.

"will be incarcerated by police and thereby separated from your family"

Suspects are arrested and processed by police, and often return to their family or community on release, often after posting bail, and agreeing to appear in court for charges. Only serious or violent crimes are they not offered bail. So the idea that this is just run-of-the-mill standard customary procedure is total Bull. And in this case, probably most of the time, BOTH parents are detained and separated from their children. I just don't know what we're teaching people with these policies.

And shows how heartless and cruel they are. They'll be in hell soon enough , and regret what they've done .

into those who are still on the other side of the fence. Similar to guard towers with machine guns pointed at you.

This degree of cruelty and heartlessness should not be tolerated in our society built by immigrants.
