GOP has few takers for 2020 convention

Cities across the country are turning down the opportunity to host the 2020 Republican National Convention, where President Trump is expected to be nominated for a second term.

The cities that have rejected hosting duties insist Trump and today’s divisive politics are not factors in their decisions. They instead cite high security costs and disruptions in the normal flow of business and traffic. But Trump is almost certainly a factor in some cities’ decisions to opt out.

“Most of the cities that have turned down the RNC are Democratic cities,” said Evan Siegfried, a New York-based Republican strategist.

“Their leaders do not want to suffer blowback with their residents for hosting Trump and neither do they want to have local business owners angry because protestors smashed their store windows.”

Cities typically welcome the prospect of holding one of the conventions, especially the revenue for hotels, restaurants and tourism services. My wife has her fingers crossed for the Democratic convention to come to San Francisco.

It surprises me that any city would want to be associated with TraitorTrump. But then, money is what drives these kinds of decisions.

I worked with a guy years ago who ran a gambling operation in our factory. He was connected with the Detroit area mobsters. He paid them a percentage and they gave him protection.

He said the 1980 republican't convention in Detroit brought in more prostitutes than he had ever seen.

We worked together for years and I never knew him to lie about anything, so I do trust that he was telling the truth and that he knew what he was talking about.

I don't have any issue with prostitution and believe it should be legal.

I do have an issue with republican'ts who try to claim to be morally superior. They are liars.

at the GOP convention.

Now, I obviously have no issue with people doing what they want with whomever when it is consensual and not abusive or harmful. The point is the GOP are a bunch of low-down hypocrites!

There was a protracted fight over whether they were going to let people come into the convention openly carrying weapons.

If they are going into the facility, that means they are doing open carry outside on the way there.

Some of these cities probably see groups of armed people walking around as problematic.

my city wants the RNC 2020 convention. And we are very D and POC in an approaching Purple state.

I don't really understand, unless they may know secretly that neither Trump or Pence will be the nominee. Could it be the current UN secretary who grew up 90 miles south of here? If it is, it will be well attended, not quite 2012 levels, but still a boon for the city.

Nashville is walking away as well.
