Florida to monitor Broward election chief after judge finds 'unlawful' ballot destruction
Source: Politico
MIAMI The elections supervisor in Floridas second-most populous county broke state and federal law by unlawfully destroying ballots cast in Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultzs 2016 Democratic primary, a judge ruled Friday in a case brought by the congresswomans challenger who wanted to check for voting irregularities.
In light of the ruling, Gov. Rick Scotts administration which has expressed concerns with how Broward County Election Supervisor Brenda Snipes has handled the case told POLITICO that hes reviewing the judges order and will have her office monitored.
During the upcoming election, the Department of State will send a Florida elections expert from the Division of Elections to Supervisor Snipes office to ensure that all laws are followed so the citizens of Broward County can have the efficient, properly run election they deserve, Scotts office said in a written statement.
Snipes and her lawyer, Burnadette Norris-Weeks, did not return an email from POLITICO for comment, though a consultant working on the offices behalf confirmed its receipt. Snipes predecessor was removed from office by former Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida Senate for botching the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial primary.

(7,653 posts)The deciding point in voting against him was his opposition to the Iran deal. Debbie voted for it. I stuck with her since that was a tough vote for her

(6,568 posts)Tim engages in bullshit conspiracy theories, and was vocally against the Iran deal, and is, in general, a piece of shit who after losing to DWS is now taking his ball and running against her as an Independent. Not to mention his working with Ron Paul and Gary Johnson. Fuck that guy. He is NOT a Democrat.

He is also not qualified for anything.
Anyone on this board who admires him, and KNOWS about him, needs to reexaime their beliefs.
I live here, and he is just awful.

(13,662 posts)I do not trust this judge, especially in South Florida which has politics that make Chicago and New Orleans look clean. On the other hand, as a Floridian, I am getting frustrated with the way that my state party keeps being careless at best, derelict at worst. If you want to know how Rick Scott and Marco Rubio came into being, you see an example right here.

(2,797 posts)I don't think that she would do anything malicious, but her office has a history of screwing things up.
Until last year she was the only African American holding countywide office. Consequently, most Democratic politicians had been reluctant to oppose her for fear of angering African American voters.
She is getting up in the years, so hopefully she will retire when her term expires in two years.

(7,419 posts)Yet the article mention no arrests. This is a major problem in our government today, the lack of accountability and real penalties.

(575 posts)I am so sick of politicians always talking about our responsibility for things, about accountability and yet, none have to do so when it comes to them.
It's time public figures, politicians - especially republicans (I'm looking at you, Nunes), start taking responsibility and be accountable.

(988 posts)What exactly was done wrong. This seems to be more GOP huffing and puffing about a problem that doesnt exist.
This is more of an attempt by the GOP to somehow change votes from the heavy democratic areas.
If I was the Democratic party, I would be monitoring this situation alot. Something fishy going on here.

(575 posts)"As the suit dragged on, Snipes signed a Sept. 1 document to destroy the ballots without informing either Canova or the court. The document she signed specifies that there should be no pending litigation."
If everything was on the up and up then why did she do this???
Something fishy was going on during that Primary and now there is evidence tampering. Or destruction
Snipes could be in big trouble here.
I personally, at the time, was hoping DWS would have been voted out of office.
