Trump administration won't approve lifetime limits on Medicaid

Source: The Hill

BY NATHANIEL WEIXEL - 05/15/18 11:48 AM EDT

The Trump administration will not approve state requests to impose lifetime limits on Medicaid coverage, a clear line in the sand on conservative changes to the health care program for the poor and sick.

“We’ve indicated we would not approve lifetime limits, and we’ve made that pretty clear to states,” Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma said Tuesday.

Earlier this month, the administration rejected Kansas’s request to impose lifetime limits on beneficiaries, but Maine, Arizona, Utah and Wisconsin have also requested to cap how long people receive benefits.

The other waivers vary, but the proposals are generally tied to work requirements. Utah and Arizona both seek a maximum of five years eligibility. In Arizona, the five-year window would only apply when a beneficiary doesn’t meet the work requirement.

Seniors and the Disabled cannot work. Workers pay into Medicaid through all their working careers. These are benefits that prevent tragedies such as what is taking place in Louisiana. Where are 37,000 sick and old people going to go once they are forced out into the streets?

Think about that! Time to pressure your Reps in Washington and give them an earful. Show up at their Town Halls if they hold them. Ask them this on their campaign stops. Do not let anyone run away from this.

is they believe their going to have a hard time getting it through the courts even without lifetime limits. They certainly not rejecting lifetime limits on medicaid out of the kindness of their hearts.

"Kansas’s proposal would have limited Medicaid coverage to three years,
at which point people would lose access to Medicaid forever.

Utah and Arizona are both seeking a maximum of five years."

It states the Trump administration will NOT approve any state waivers to impose lifetime Medicaid coverage limits.

I would think 99.9 % of people here would be in total agreement
