Publix is supporting Adam Putnam's run for governor like no politician before
Source: Tampa Bay Times
The Florida supermarket giant Publix has given more money to Adam Putnam's gubernatorial bid than any other candidate since at least 1995 and likely for the entirety of the company's history.
Publix, the heirs to the company's founder and its current and former leaders have given Putnam $670,000 in the last three years or enough money to buy 74,527 chicken tender subs.
No other Florida candidate has ever come close to that kind of subsidy from Florida's largest Fortune 500 company. Its most recent contribution, a $100,000 donation on April 30, was the largest, too, according to the latest campaign finance filings.
The employee-owned company has also helped bankroll a handful of well-connected business groups who have contributed millions of dollars to the Republican candidate.

(43,182 posts)Publix does such a great job with their supermarkets that it kills me that they would do this.
But that's Corporate America for you. Every once in a while some corporation will surprise you with a conscience, but usually they just love to throw money at the fat cat Republicans, who in turn throw money back at them.

(12,132 posts)I used to love Publix. They are closest (Two of them closer to me than the next closest competitor) and always cleanest and have the kindest, most helpful employees.
No idea where to go now - I think there's an Aldi not too far.

Note - I am from Bartow and my parents contributed to Putnam for years to my embarrassment. Since Dad passed away in 2013 Mom has not contributed any money for political candidates or organization. Putnam lives just down the street from Mom's house.
