Democrats' anti-Trump resistance scores a big primary win in Nebraska

Source: CNN

A nonprofit executive who campaigned on offering "Medicare for all," stunned the Democratic establishment and secured one of the activist left's biggest wins yet Tuesday in a House primary in Nebraska.
Kara Eastman defeated the better-known former Rep. Brad Ashford, a "Blue Dog" who argued for compromise, by nearly 3 percentage points.
Ashford was seen by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as a strong fit for a district that is slightly to the left of the nation's average -- voting for President Donald Trump by 2 points in 2016 and Mitt Romney by 7 points in 2012.
Now, the national party is left grappling with whether Eastman's win will hurt their chances of ousting Republican Rep. Don Bacon, who had been seen as vulnerable in November.

Hiding in a corner and not offering real alternatives hasn’t moved Democrats very far in the last few years. I think the party leaders are underestimating the energy and attitudes of the grass-roots campaigns sparked by Trump’s election. The DNC needs to get the message too. I think there was a poll a few weeks ago where a majority of voters said they supported single payer, Medicare like healthcare, yet party leaders are afraid to support candidates who push for it. That’s why I’ve stopped donating to the DNC and DCCC and instead send my money to local and state candidates. I was irritated that the DNC provided no support for the candidate in Arizona’s recent special election, and she lost by only 5 percentage points. Money and national support might have gotten her over the line.

They backed the former GOP'er. DCCC was mad Henry Scott Wallace beat their preferred former Republican candidate in PA-01, too.

I think the message to the DCCC is when they back Republicans, voters will elect real Democrats.

November will tell if the DCCC is correct. Because that is when the voters will elect the winner.

Hopefully progressives will play in this district. But I am fearful we may be disappointed.

Than have it be the tired choice of conservative GOPer and conservative lite Blue Dog. I have nothing...well, almost nothing...again Blue Dogs, but if they can't win their own primary, then that's the way it goes.

the corporate media paints her reasonable, formerly norm positions as somehow now not mainstream. Thom Hartmann just reviewed her stance on issues and pointed this out.
