'Things could have gone much worse': Ex-student shot by officer during gunfire exchange at Dixon Hig

Source: Chicago Tribune

Officials say a police officer working at Dixon High School shot and wounded a former student who fired a gun at him Wednesday.

The incident began near the school’s west gymnasium about 8 a.m., according to officials speaking at a late-morning news conference.
Earlier in the day, City Manager Danny Langloss said students were gathered at the gym for graduation practice.
Dixon police Chief Steven Howell said the suspect, a 19-year-old former student, “fired several shots near the west gym.”

The school resource officer confronted the suspect, who then fled from the school with the officer in pursuit, Howell said. During the pursuit, the suspect fired several shots at the officer but did not strike him.

The officer returned fire and struck the suspect, who was then taken into custody just west of the school, Howell said. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

Maybe "Officer" Peterson down at Parkland could learn something from THIS officer.

How many people would - armed with a pistol would go up against a person armed with an assault weapon in an unknown location, and survive?

"Maybe "Officer" Peterson down at Parkland could learn something from THIS officer."

No need... he retired. Unless you simply wanted to throw a petulant and irrelevant dig at him that he'll never be aware of.

Which is a really, really clever and effective thing for you to do!

As others have recently pointed out, such a tired-assed act.

Maybe he reads DU. You'd never know.

After I retired, I worked as a substitute teacher for a few years. For three or four years, I subbed in Dixon every day. I liked the students at the high school. This is a good community. I live in the country, but spend a lot of time there.

This cop did everything exactly as he was trained to do. So did the staff and students when they went on lockdown. Everyone responded to this shooting in exactly the right way. Kudos, Dixon police, school staff and students! I am glad everyone is all right. The shooter will be okay, too. His injuries are not life threatening.
