Trump ramps up rhetoric on undocumented immigrants: 'These aren't people. These are animals.'

Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON — President Trump used extraordinarily harsh rhetoric to renew his call for stronger immigration laws Wednesday, calling undocumented immigrants "animals" and venting frustration at Mexican officials who he said "do nothing" to help the United States.

“We have people coming into the country or trying to come in, we're stopping a lot of them, but we're taking people out of the country. You wouldn't believe how bad these people are," Trump said.

"These aren't people. These are animals."

Trump's comments came in a freewheeling, hour-long White House meeting with local California leaders opposed to so-called "sanctuary city" policies. "California's law provides safe harbor to some of the most vicious and violent offenders on Earth, like MS-13 gang members putting innocent men, women, and children at the mercy of these sadistic criminals," he said.

Is every California official in that room needs to be called on the carpet and forced to publically disavow Trump
or have the title of Nazi POS tied around their freakin neck. The California GOP has to be to outed and every
California GOP Congressman in every swing district has to be called a Neo-Nazi if they refuse to condemn Trump
in the harshest terms possible.

I am growing weary of this thing that slimed his way into power. I am tired of listening to Republicans making excuses day after day for this deplorable conman, pathological liar and sexual deviate who preys of women. Maybe I am just to damn old for this crap. I have grown to despise every damn Republican and not even caring what they have to say knowing that it will be the same hackneyed apologies for vile lies that their Fuhrer vomits 24/7. I wonder if this monstrosity that occasionally occupies the White House between golf outings will ever give us a moments peace from his irrational maniacal tweets. What in the hell did we do to deserve this plague that would have vexed even Moses? Are you as tired of this fiasco as I? Hurry up Mueller; I don't know if we can hold out much longer. This ordeal would try the patience of Job.

The Hill:

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) took aim at President Trump Wednesday for his comments at a roundtable on so-called sanctuary cities in California, saying that the president was "lying" about immigration and the state’s laws.
“@realDonaldTrump is lying on immigration, lying about crime and lying about the laws of CA,” Brown tweeted, including a Pinocchio emoji.
“Flying in a dozen Republican politicians to flatter him and praise his reckless policies changes nothing,” he continued. “We, the citizens of the fifth largest economy in the world, are not impressed.”

Some responses from Twitter:

Adam Schiff @RepAdamSchiff

Murderers, rapists, and animals. This is how the President views undocumented immigrants. These degrading words are also how despots around the world dehumanize those they persecute.

The only protection? A vigilant citizenry and the rule of law.

Lawrence O'Donnell @Lawrence

Trump: “These aren’t people. These are animals.”

No one would condemn these words more than Jesus Christ.

Christians who don’t condemn these words don’t understand their own religion.

Laurence Tribe @tribelaw

This is staggering. It’s beyond contemptible. No other president in our history ever sank this low.

Rep. Eric Swalwell @RepSwalwell

IF you are a decent person and were in a meeting where @realDonaldTrump called immigrants “animals,” you will denounce him NOW. Otherwise, what makes you any different?

Norm Eisen @NormEisen

Let’s just say it: this is the way Nazi Germans talked about targeted minorities.

Trump, his minders, and most of the Republican leadership want to create maximum hate, division, confusion, racism and xenophobia as possible, and in a fact-free environment.

Professional studies have shown that on the average, immigrants have a much lower crime rate than their counterparts in American society in general.

It's no wonder my head spins every day from all this bullshit.....

And that those who arrived more recently should be no less welcome than those who arrived via the last generation or the one before that. And it seems like the latest wave of immigrants becomes the least welcome, it was once the Irish or the Chinese or whichever wave of those seeking a better life was the last to arrive. Chances are that whichever group anyone's ancestors belonged to were at one time unwelcome - and that includes Trump's. How we are callous enough to forget that is totally beyond me, but it now seems we have forgotten the atrocities of WWII, as well.

My Dad's paternal grandparents both arrived from Ireland - which I learned were not particularly welcome at the time. And my maternal grandparents both came from Poland, "on the last boat," as my mother described it. My grandfather was 18, they made him a citizen and sent him to France to fight for this country. And, like him, our current armed forces have other young men from other countries - like Army Captain Humayun Khan who fought and died in Iraq. But some of those currently serving are actually being deported. What has changed? That this is happening now seems to me to be a national disgrace.
