Santa Fe school shooting: Texas Gov., wife to attend service at church
Source: CBS News
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and his wife, Cecilia Abbott, will attend a church service Sunday in Santa Fe, where 10 people were killed in a shooting at the high school Friday. At a vigil Friday night, Abbott said "we need to do more than just pray for the victims and their families."

Abbott on Friday called the shooting "one of the most heinous attacks that we've ever seen in the history of Texas schools."
Abbott will play host to round-table discussions with parents, school leaders and lawmakers to explore remedies to gun violence in Texas, where eight mass killings have taken place in the past 50 years or so, CBS Houston affiliate KHOU reports. Abbott also wants to hear from gun-rights advocates.
Abbott said he would support regulations such as speeding up the background-check process so people who pose "immediate danger" can't purchase weapons, KHOU reports. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who also joined Abbott in Santa Fe Friday, argued that the state can do more to harden targets like churches and schools.

For a brief moment I had gotten the impression that Abbott had seen the light, but as long as he's caving to pressure from the gun lobby to 'be at the table' nothing will change.
As far as Dan Patrick arguing that the solution to gun violence is to 'harden' churches and schools I say FUCK YOU......

(4,032 posts)Here again, they deflect to God (how convenient) instead of looking at hard decisions. God didnt save those kids. God didnt save the kids in Florida, or Columbine, or in any other school, church, or workplace. Abbott, being an NRA supporter will now do his thoughts and prayers game on another group of grieving parents, promise that hell look into it, and go back to his office where he can write out another check to Andy North & Co.
Just as I finished the upper portion of this post, I went back to the main page and read that the Lt. Gov. of Texas is opposed to any bill requiring the safe storage of guns. I about ready to explode. Unbelievable! WHAT WILL IT TAKE to restore common sense to a Republican?

(4,066 posts)I hate these people so much. I really do. Especially the Southern ones because I grew up with these people and their bullshit. All the good things in the world were attributable to God and everything bad that happened was because of men not close enough to God.
What total and utter bullshit. It's also the reason I am an atheist and at times a militant one.
I can't tell you the number of stories I was told as a child about how God/Jesus (In the Southern Baptist Church, Jesus was the key to salvation) touched someone's heart and made them see the light. Starting with Saul, who became Paul. Though Paul's conversion was a bit more dramatic than most.
There is really very little else that raises rage in me anymore than this bullshit from people like Abbot and his Lt. Governor. Too many fucking doors. FFS, how did he come up with that?
I need to stop ranting now or I'll switch to Pruitt and his ilk who feel it's fine to ruin the Earth so Jeebus will rapture them.
