Mnuchin says Cohen's financial records are missing
Source: NY Post
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said financial records of President Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen appear to be missing from his agency and the inspector general is investigating.
"Our inspector general is reviewing the issue of leaks. There is the appearance that some of the information may have gone out," Mnuchin told the House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday.
The New Yorker last week wrote about a law enforcement official who released documents to the media about Cohen's banking records because he thought the information was being hidden.
"There is no excuse whatsoever for anybody who has access to these important systems to release information on an unauthorized basis," Mnuchin said.

Yes, this is the NY Post -- but I don't see other reports yet.
Up till now, all I've seen are reports that it is possible for documents to be "hidden" on the system. I wonder if Mnuchin really used the word "missing" or if that was just the reporter?

(62,444 posts)He didn't say they were missing.
"There is the appearance that some of the information may have gone out..."
Yeah, well we knew that they "appeared" to be missing by looky-loos cruising the database.
At the end of the day, the underlying bank transactions themselves can't be "erased".
He added that procedures do exist at Treasury to suppress important information for law enforcement reasons, but would not comment on whether this was or was not done with the Suspicious Activity Reports on Cohens accounts in a Treasury database.
Because if it was done, then he couldn't comment on it anyway.
The headline goes way beyond the substance of the article.

(37,648 posts)I assumed they had to be filed along with other documents because of his work with Trump or the Trump team? Maybe the Trump team had to produce them to be attached to all the forms they had to provide, so Cohen had to provide them to Trump for that use? But it's clear that they are supposed to be there.
These are some of the documents that were leaked recently by a secret source...Cohen bank records in the administration files or database that the source said had been "hidden." The bank records identified that a lot more money had gone through that shell corporation that Cohen set up, and which he used to pay the porn star. Remember that? It was a week or two ago, and already I've forgotten the details. There's just so much going on.

(10,279 posts)Treasury, gets a bag containing the records, rides to the WH while screaming "Mueller is coming", throws the bag into the waiting arms of IQ45, and returns the nag. The scenario works for me. Certainly fits with what we know about Nunez.
