Our Revolution keeps consultant who made anti-immigrant comments

Source: Politico

Nina Turner is keeping her personal consultant on the Our Revolution payroll despite complaints from current and former board members and staff that the woman has made anti-immigrant comments that compromise the Bernie Sanders-inspired political group’s values.

In a statement out Tuesday, Turner, the group’s president, noted that the comments by Tezlyn Figaro are not held by Turner, or by Our Revolution. On Fox News last year, Figaro cited President Donald Trump‘s “leadership” on the travel ban and said, “We are sick and tired of immigrants coming into the country and getting benefits that Americans do not get … what I’m seeing is not paying taxes, what I’m seeing is getting a lot of freebies that Americans do not get.”

Those comments and others — a month after Trump’s election in 2016 she tweeted “Please! #buildthewall” —have upset many in the organization. The Our Revolution board stopped Turner from installing Figora as the group’s chief of staff earlier this month, in a dispute that came to light as part of a POLITICO story published Monday.

Turner’s statement went on to cite Figaro’s tweets Monday afternoon apologizing for the comments. Turner stated that Figaro “is still part of our staff,” though the matter is “under advisement by myself and the Our Revolution board of directors.”

In Ky you can often scratch a "revolutionary" and find a horrible racist within. Courting these types has made the republican party what it is today.
And before all the Bernie apologists pillory me....he lost me decades ago as he gushed about the glories of communism. Total non starter for me. But I guess Burlington got some new snowplows.
But I am fine if you like him as long as you are fine that I am massively underwhelmed.

The decades ago of his penchant for communism & his normalizing socialism which would apparently be damned near impossible in a country the size of America..but don't let that stop the promised dream of free stuff.
One should admire whomever's policies one likes.
The Communism/Socialism lean is more than I'm willing to put my money on.
Its just a little creepy for me.

Among other things, like little foreign policy & the whole scant history on the side of women's & minority rights.

There's way too much missing here.
But others may see that as no big deal.
And that's fine for them.
But not me.

but that said, I haven't seen a solid alternative to at least some capitalistic components to a society yet. Of course, we've never seen a non-totalitarian version of socialism that is built upon a free press and truly democratic government, so there really have been no test cases at a large scale of such a state.

Sounds like efforts to oust Figaro are potentially still ongoing. The title for the story though not technically inaccurate is somewhat misleading if the matter has not yet been fully resolved in either direction. That said, Tezlyn Figaro should be dismissed, and sooner rather than later.
