President Donald Trump on Friday told the graduating class of Naval Academy students that the U.S. military is “respected again” under his leadership.

“You are now leaders of the most power and righteous forces on the face of the planet, the United States Military,” he said. “We are respected again, I can tell you that. We are respected again. A lot of things have happened, we’re respected again.”

admirals from WW II who graduated from the Naval Academy. Their were
Chester Nimitz, William Halsey, and Ray Spruance and they were respected

There were a couple of online commentaries that suggested that many midshipmen were less than enthused about his coming. That they would attempt to remain polite, but that's it.

The Pew Global Attitudes Project found that citizens in 35 out of 37 countries have less confidence in Trump than they did in former President Obama. In some cases, far less confidence.

For example, 86 percent of Germans said they had “a lot of confidence” or “some confidence” in Obama, but only 11 percent said the same of Trump.

Separately, the Pew Global Attitudes Project measures foreign opinion of the United States. That survey found that only two of the 37 countries have a more favorable opinion of the United States since Trump took office.

A "nation brand" index – released Thursday from Germany-based market research firm Gfk and political consultant Simon Anholt – ranked the U.S. No. 6, a clear decline from its first place ranking last year. In fact, the nation was the only country in the top 10 to see a decline from 2016. Germany advanced one spot from 2016 to top the list.

The index, which ranked 50 countries on the power and quality of their brand image, was the latest in a series of global findings spelling bad news for America's standing among the world's top nations.

In the 2017 U.S. News Best Countries Rankings, the U.S. fell from the No. 4 Best Country to No. 7. A poll conducted for the rankings also found more than 70 percent of survey respondents lost respect for U.S. leadership as a result of the toxic nature of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The wife and I are fortunate to be able to travel overseas yearly. Normally I have no trepidation about the trip.

This year, hell yeah I do. Not because of Europe but because of us. The US. Trump.

During the Bush years I only had one negative overseas incident based on US politics. I am anxious to see how it shakes out this year.

I speak some French and take the time to learn some of the language in each country I travel. Well, Western European. I was helpless with mandarin.

Hopefully that will be enough.

Reminds me of my old roommate's experience during the Bush years. He was over in the UK visiting his girlfriend, and they were out at a pub somewhere.
