Keith Ellison: I'm boycotting the NFL over 'cowardly' kneeling ban
Source: The Hill
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said that he will boycott the NFL this upcoming season over its new policy requiring players to stand during the national anthem.
Friends who know me, know that I love football. But I wont be watching this NFL season because of the unfair cowardly and idiotic kneeling ban, the progressive lawmaker tweeted on Sunday, adding the hashtag Boycott NFL.

The NFL approved the new policy last week, requiring that players on the field stand during the anthem. Players will also be allowed to stay in the locker room during the anthem, but any players who protest during the Star Spangled Banner will face a penalty.
President Trump began attacking NFL players who kneel during the anthem last year, saying that NFL owners should fire the protesting players.

(16,917 posts)are you kneeling - or standing?
Sorry, lean, I'm NOT picking on you - but REALLY pizzed about this whole f**king mess!!!!!
We have a good (you must be good if you can take your team to a Super Bowl, right?) football player "take a knee" to show that he thinks there has been too much police action taken against a group of people. He does it during the playing of some music that celebrates a war that was declared our "national anthem" (really, wouldn't "America the Beautiful" be SO much better? Think about the words. Even Rosanne could sing that - well, maybe).
Some people are upset because the football player did what he did - and others support him and the idea spreads. It all would have probably died down - until up steps IQ45!
IQ45 goes into full dictator/"dicktator" mode - fire up the base and get them all to look away from other little things, you know, like "Was the election stolen?" - "Do ethics exist any more?" - "Does a cabinet secretary have to want and support the cabinet he/she heads?" - "Why can't I charge the government millions for my decisions? (I'm off to Mar-a-lago - cover me!" .
Now it becomes a national issue and many different groups deal with it in different ways. Some players "lock arms" - some players stay in the "tunnel" - some fans "boo" and some cheer - some (well, OK, just 1) charge the government a long plane trip to go to a game and walk out when he sees a player using his right as an AMERICAN to kneel and support that first guy - and most TV broadcasters just go to commercial to avoid showing ANY of the actions before the game.
OK - season's over - Super Bowl is gone - time away from the issue.
BUT, that football player that started it all ("Yea!!!!!!" or "Booo!!!!" is not working - no team wants to or will hire him. What's up with that?
Then, the NFL owners meet and have to come up with a "policy" regarding the players: A:exercising their rights as American citizens, or, B: not allowing the players to defy IQ45 by actually staying in America and letting people know that there are some actual problems right here at home.
Seriously, is this what we have come to in the era of IQ45? We have organizations and corporations that obey his "lock 'em up - throw them out" rallies and ignore basic constitutional rights and freedoms - even related to American pastime activities?
It is time to stand - and pay attention to what is happening - and Get Out The Vote in November - it is not a game..............

The irony is so rich and deep that careers could be made out of it by people much smarter than myself.

Stop chasing shiny objects Keith and start hammering Trump on Russia and corruption and his war on the working poor day after day after day.
There's a whole stable of Democratic celebrities who could be fighting the good fight to defend freedom of expression for NFL employees. The Democratic party should be hammering Trump on his terrible policies, his incoherent engagement with foreign states, his corruption, his disregard for the rule of law...
