(23,294 posts)Sorry for the non-racist actors, producers etc who work on the show. And, this crap with RB has gone on long enough. Go home Roseanne. Your day in the sun is over.

(18,837 posts)I think it was best to cancel the show, because face it...the network, like any company, is primarily concerned about its public image and advertising revenue.
That said, quite a few people said goodbye to their steady paychecks today, all because of the ignorance of one woman. She's going to have one hell of a time finding anyone to back her financially or work with her again. Then again, Fox renewed the Tim Allen show, so maybe she'll find a home there, with a brand new cast. Sounds ridiculous, but so does everything else that has happened since January 2016,
MontanaMama
(23,294 posts)However unfounded. We have to counter that if we can. This is about basic human decency. Time to send the racists back to their hatey holes. Let the shunning begin.

(37,648 posts)Richards was in the middle of a comedy routine, He ultimately lost it, while being heckled. He hadn't planned it out, thought about it beforehand, posted it for the world to see, or direct his statements about an Obama cabinet member to harm that person and that person's career. He lost his cool, his temper.
Roseanne's tweet was calm, cool, and collected....tweeted in the bright light of day under circumstances where she had an opportunity to think about it and plan it. She wasn't being attacked. She wasn't in the middle of a comedy routine & lost it and lashed out without thinking, unplanned. Hers was pointed and directed at one person in particular, to harm that person personally and professionally.
I think Roseanne's tweet is more serious.

(2,894 posts)to the normalizing of the toxic, nauseating, reprehensible, grotesque behavior that has been gushing out of the swamp with so little consequence. Clinton greatly underestimated the number of Deplorables. It's been unbelievably disheartening... and stunning... to see what Deplorables now feel free to so publicly convey. Of course, it is also awful that anyone would convey that vile filth privately... but now they don't even feel compelled to be discreet in their vileness.

(15,373 posts)I've always liked John Goodman and loved Sarah Chalke on, "Scrubs." And then the person who initiated was Sara Gilbert who I'm going to assume is more liberal than not and is a lesbian married to a woman of color (former frontswoman of 4 Non Blondes) so that's got to feel like betrayal to Sarah, putting in all that effort to bring back Roseanne and then have her fuck everything up by being racist.

(59,574 posts)From the CNN link above on her puke-inducing exchange with Chelsea Clinton:
EDIT
Barr also made comments on Twitter Tuesday about Chelsea Clinton, tweeting, "Chelsea Soros Clinton." She later replied in the comments that Clinton is "married to Soros nephew." Soros is a billionaire liberal benefactor who has been the subject to many right-wing conspiracy theories over the years.
Link to tweet
Clinton responded to Barr shortly after.
"Good morning Roseanne - my given middle name is Victoria. I imagine George Soros's nephews are lovely people. I'm just not married to one," she wrote. Barr responded back to Clinton saying, "Sorry to have tweeted incorrect info about you! Please forgive me!"
Link to tweet
She then continued, "By the way, George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth-were you aware of that? But, we all make mistakes, right Chelsea?"
This is a conspiracy theory about Soros that has been debunked many times. The fact-checking site Snopes called it "false" back in 2016.

Then again, they all knew who she is and how she pops off at the mouth, and were willing to work with her anyway. I imagine they're upset and angry, but I would hope they're smart enough not to be surprised. If I were Roseanne, I think I'd forgo picking up whatever personal property that might be left on set.
It's unfortunate she went so far off the rails. I remember watching the original show with my parents when I was a kid.

(20,131 posts)Hell, Valerie Harper was fired and killed off from her show "Valerie" because she wanted more money and had walked off the set. That tactic worked with "Rhoda" but not with NBC. Sandy Duncan replaced Valerie as the children's aunt, and the show continued as The Hogan Family longer than "Valerie" was aired
This makes me wonder if there were problems with Rosanne other than her being openly racist and stupid. Maybe she was asking for more money and they decided she wasn't worth it.

(4,066 posts)Weren't the ratings for the show tanking already? ABC probably it delighted to have an excuse to end the series and get out of the contract due to her behavior.
Because we all know better than to believe they did it out of moral outrage. Corporations only love money - not morals or people. Just like the NFL it's about the perception of revenue loss. Not that they give a damn about minorities or anyone but $$$

Everyone fell for Roseannes big premiere rating. Ratings collapsed after that (as they almost always do). Rosannes ratings arent worth todays burden for Disney & ABC. They dont have to be brave to cancel her. Maybe they just have to be good business executives.

(1,770 posts)Hardly a collapse.
ABC would not have green lighted for next season it is it was a ratings disaster.

This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as weve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.

It seems that Roseanne Barr is clinging to her embrace of racist populism and conspiracy theories.
On Monday, the comedian suggested that Valerie Jarrett, senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, is a combination of the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes." Barr's attack came in response to a report about how CIA operations under Obama.
Though Jarrett's name is not mentioned in the piece, Roseanne's response is perhaps not surprising, as the comedic sensation often moonlights as a Twitter troll.
Jarrett, who is African-American and has no connection to the religious and political Muslim group known as the Muslim Brotherhood, has long been a target for right-wing critics and conspiracy theorists. During Obama's tenure, suspicions spread on right-wing blogs that Jarrett allegedly expressed a desire "to help change America to be a more Islamic country." The fact-checking website Snopes ruled that claim to be false.
