Justin Trudeau Just Slammed "Insulting and Unacceptable" Trump Trade Behavior

The Canadian PM called Trumps rationale factually inaccurate.
JAMES WESTJUN. 2, 2018 2:04 PM
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called President Trumps trade tariffs on aluminium and steel insulting and unacceptable in a new video posted on Saturday by NBCs Meet the Press on Twitter. Canada, Mexico and the European Union had previously been exempt from Trumps 25 percent tariffs on steel imports and 10 percent tariffs on aluminum imports, but the US snapped them into effect at midnight Thursday. The US cast the decision to include the three trading giants and allies in the tariffs as an urgent matter of national security to defend local markets: Without a strong economy, you cant have a strong national security, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said last week.
But Trudeau flatly refuted that premise in the video, which previews a longer interview set to air on Sunday, by recalling his countrys deep military relationship with the US. (NBC also made some of the details from the upcoming interview available Friday on its website.)
The idea that, you know, our soldiers who had fought and died together on the beaches of World War II, and the mountains of Afghanistan and have stood shoulder-to-shoulder in some of the most difficult places in the world, that are always there for each other, somehowthis is insulting to them, he told Meet the Press anchor Chuck Todd. Next week were hosting the G7 summit of world leaders and the airfield, the military base, that Air Force One is going to land in was put there in World War II to protect an aluminium smelter that was providing to the military effort. The idea that we are somehow a national security threat to the United States is quite frankly insulting and unacceptable.
So, what do you feel as if the president wants from you in putting these tariffs up? Todd asked.

Again, another stupid, irrational act by an idiot. Congress, do your duty and remove this stain upon the country's honor, NOW!

(20 posts)As racist as xenophobic and disutil as they are, such tariffs and trade barriers serve as an important bulwark in support of domestic wages.

He doesn't "want" a deal.
Mutual benefit isn't in his wheelhouse, this thread explains that.

(23,946 posts)So punishing our allies makes no sense, as Trudeau and basic logic state.
Chaos seems to be the only goal for everything...they know nothing else.

China accounts for at least half of the global steel output, and is the largest exporter.

Tariffs are not going to do a damn thing, especially tariffs on our allies

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has released the new number of harp seal pups landed so far: 43,107. This figure does not include seals who were struck and lost.
This year, Newfoundland sealers claim they want to club and shoot to death at least 80,000 seals, all to produce products no one wants to buy.
Canada subsidizes the largest mass slaughter of a marine mammal species in the world the annual harp seal massacre.

(3,246 posts)Canada is not a national security threat to the United States, not in the slightest. At the most, Canada is a competitor in the global marketplace, but that's it.
Dolt 45 just pissed all over the ties that bind Canada and the United States as friends, neighbors, and allies. As an American living and working in Canada, Trump embarrasses me every damn day. Every fucking day he says or does something so asinine that when my friends here ask me to explain it, all I can do is shrug and apologize. It's humiliating.

I bet I've spent 25 to 30 percent more on wood, remodeling my house, and it's coming in from Denmark and Sweden of all places!

(19,204 posts)"The United States must, at long last, be treated fairly on Trade. If we charge a country ZERO to sell their goods, and they charge us 25, 50 or even 100 percent to sell ours, it is UNFAIR and can no longer be tolerated. That is not Free or Fair Trade, it is Stupid Trade"!
Well, "The Donald" is the world's most renowned expert on all things "stupid", so he should know. The only thing more stupid would be punishing our allies and thus further isolating the U.S. on the world stage. And that's just what "Professor Stupid" is doing.
