Romney: Democratic attacks tying me to Todd Akin are ‘sad’

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Rhiannon12866 (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Washington Post

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said Sunday that Democratic efforts to tie him to Rep. Todd Akin’s (R-Mo.) controversial comments are “sad” and he reiterated that he adamantly disagrees with the congressman’s recent remarks about rape and pregnancy.

“With all the issues America faces, for the Obama campaign to stoop to such a low level — they understand and they are are wise enough to understand that people like myself — who have asked Todd Akin to get out of the race — are doing so because we vehemently disagree with what he said. And believe it hurts our party and I think is damaging to women.”

Democrats, including the Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, have tried to connect Akin’s remarks to the presidential ticket. Romney on Sunday called Akin’s remarks “outrageous” and “uninformed.”

Democrats also have raised the issue of Romney’s offshore accounts. Romney said Sunday the attacks have come because the Democratic campaign ”is not about the big issues America faces.” He added that ”all the taxes are paid exactly as owed and there are no tax savings by virtue of having that vehicle.”

Another pants-on-fire moment for Mittens.

Dems need to mention Romney's bragging about being endorsed by Dr. John Willkie every time he tries to squirm away from being associated with these crazy anti-choice views.

And his claim that there were no tax savings from his offshore accounts should be easy to shoot down, too.

Sad that America has to tolerate such ignorance as that Akin, Romney and the GOP demonstrate.

Can't ask him questions and he must know certain questions before hand. I wonder if they will do the same for the debates.

Akin's and the GOP platform are one of the same. The nominee for that party is in line with that platform. Mitten's is a pathological liar, same with the rest of the party. Dr. Wilkie is insane like the rest of the GOP party. Overall, these people are just plain nuts with tons of money and that my friends is very frightening.

Yes, his own words from not too long ago. In the face of the Akin fiasco, Romney has attempted to reposition himself with a "less severe" stance on abortion rights, but it's just more example of unfolding events defining Romney, absent any core principles. Sad indeed.

He has changed his mind so many times he could always point to some point and "prove" his position. The repub platform follows the likes of Akin and their silly thoughts, Romney as the presidential candidate for the repub party is now the repub leader and should stand up to the radicals in his party and break away from them completely.
